Rejection. Draco has never been rejected before, and it hurt! Draco was sitting on his new dormitory bed, looking dejectedly at his reflection in the mirror.
"I think I can find the wrong sort for myself, thanks," those words echoed in Draco's head over and over.
It had happened again, when he had gotten near that boy, that- Harry Potter, his forehead had started tingling, but when Harry had stared at him cooly, it had started to twinge, almost painfully.
Draco could ignore the physical pain, gods- he had been beaten enough times to be able to ignore it, but the emotional pain, just wouldn't be ignored. No matter how much Draco tried, it was there, almost as if he had made a mistake insulting that red headed kid, what ever his name was. But no, that was ubsurd. He had to become enemies with him.
"I want you to befriend Potter," Draco mimicked his father, "do what ever it takes... Please, does he really think I'm going to help KILL him? I don't think so!"
Draco leaned closer to the mirror and examined his forehead. It looked normal enough, he supposed, but still....
Cautiously, Draco raised his hand to his head and brushed his fingers against where the tingle had been the strongest- and he felt it, the rough flesh of a cut that had been scared over.
Draco's eyes widened as his fingers traced his flesh. A lightning bolt? His eyes searched desperately for a sign of any broken skin but found none. His fingers kept tracing his forehead while his mind stopped thinking altogether.
Draco's small form slumped over as he lost conciseness.
The next morning, Draco woke early in order to go to the library, he had some research to do. He pulled the book he wanted from a shelf, and settled down at a table. Flipping through the pages, he spotted something that looked important.
"When one of the afformetnioned mates is permanatly marked in some way at any point of their life, the second mate will also be marked, in the same way- in the same place," Draco read quietly, raising his hand once again to his head. "But," he continued, "if somehow the connection between them is blocked, for example- a strong spell of some kind, or one of them is killed before the bond between them is fully formed, it is very unlikely for them to be once again reunited. It has been heard of that when the mates are near a strong surge of power will allert them, but this has not been proven."
Draco blinked slowly and looked back a few pages to the start of the chapter. "Soulmates," he said softly, slowly getting up and replacing the book where he found it. In a daze, he left the library and went back to his bed. He would have to think about this some.
