Artist Statement:
I work predominantly in an oil based medium on multi-sized plywood surfaces. I confront social, psychological, and emotional issues that often relate to the suppressed state of our society. My works contain power, emotion, directness of expression. For a painting to be strong, I must approach it with total self- confidence. This is the "key" element. I work both in a state of intellect, and of impulse, wherein I rely almost entirely on my emotions to guide my hand. When I am working in the latter manner I come closest to expressing my true identity.
Philip Iverson, 1999
