Summer 2000, Herceg-Novi and Kotor
August 2000, hot and sunny days, warm sea and warm nights, dear people, fish on the barbecue, long walks into the night, what more can one wish for. Herceg-Novi is a beautifyul old town on Adriatic sea, about 60 km south from Dubrovnik. My parent's holiday house is close to the beach, and I would get up in the morning, have breakfast with my grandma and my cousins under the pergola (that is covered with kiwi fruit vines), and then stroll down to the sea. Around noon, when it gets too hot, we would sit in the shade, read the books or just talk. Occassionaly we would have a big watermelon (around 10kg weight are the best) after the lunch and whole neighbourhood for the feast. If there was no watermelon, I would climb to the big fig tree in my cousin's garden and stay there until I can't eat any more. And in the evening, we would walk to the one of many cafes in the old city, or just have a stroll by the sea.
Few times we went on a trip through the Boka Kotorska bay (they say it is a fiord in fact). Nature is beautiful and unreal, 2000 meters high mountains raising from the sea-level. At the tip of the bay is Kotor, medieval town built in stone.
My cousin Cukana in orange dress, cousin Misa and his girlfriend Ceca.
Narrow streets, old wells, laundry on the line on the house facade, people still live here, but old stores are selling computers and TVs ....
... and satelite dishes.

Stop under the wellcomed shade at midday, rest the tired feet.
Hotel "Maria" and "Little kuzina (kitchen)"
Nappies dry best against the warm wall...
On the way home we pass old monasteries and Italian-stile churches.
We visit Perast, another small medeval town. Then we stop in the middle of the sea and jump off the boat into the blue-green, calm sea. Pure joy.
It was good getting together with Cukana again. We spent a lot of time together, in Herceg-Novi and Novi Sad.
Misa and me, barbecuing sardins. Right top, Cukana, Maha and me. Right botom: yes, it is kiwi-fruit.
