swimming, waterpolo, lifesaving and the events in which they are
involved.

The
role of the IUSWA is to promote, develop and govern swimming,
waterpolo and associated water disciplines in Irish universities
and third level colleges. The IUSWA works closely with Swim
Ireland, the Irish
Waterpolo Association, Irish
Water Safety and the Council
of Univeristy Sports Administrators in Ireland (CUSAI) in
achieving its aims.
Specific
Responsibilities
The IUSWA act as the recognised body for affiliated clubs and
their interests in respect to swimming, waterpolo and associated
water disciplines. They govern the running of third level swimming,
waterpolo and other water discipline competitions. In addition
to promoting swimming, waterpolo and other water disciplines at
third level in Ireland, the IUSWA's primary function is to advise
and aid their member clubs in the hosting of the annual Swimming,
Waterpolo and Lifesaving
(Pool and Surf) Intervarsity Championships.
As
well as that they organise the Irish representative side that
competes in the annual Celtic Nations competition including the
appointment of the Celtic Nations selectors and coaches and the
hosting of the Celtic Nations on its turn.
The IUSWA Committee currently
consists of a Chairperson, a Vice-Chairperson, a Secretary and
a Treasurer. A representative from Swim Ireland (SI) and a sports
leader from one of the third level institutions is also entitled
to sit on the Executive. The IUSWA Executive with the exception
of the SI representative, who shall be appointed by SI, shall
be elected at the Annual General Meeting of the IUSWA and in accordance
with the constitution.
The IUSWA liase with CUSAI, Swim Ireland, Irish Water Safety and
the Irish Waterpolo Association with respect to airing issues,
upcoming events and organisation of International Competitions.
