Chapter
ninety:
After
everyone had gone to bed, Jenna climbed out of a hot bath and slipped into a
tight tank top and a pair of loose pajama pants.
Becky was sleeping in Zac’s room, as she did every night, and Jenna didn’t feel
like sleeping alone. Not knowing her boyfriend was just down the hall.
She
padded down the hall in her bare feet and stopped outside of Luke’s room.
His
door was open, and he was folding a pair of jeans over a hanger to put away in
the closet.
Jenna
knocked on the door gently.
He
looked up at her with a smile.
“Can
I come in?” She asked.
“Of
course you can.” He put the hanger in the closet and closed the door. “I’m just
finishing my unpacking.”
“Okay,
good.” Jenna crossed the room and jumped onto the double bed, sitting
cross-legged in the middle.
Luke
smiled and stretched out across the bed on his side.
“Luke?
Can I ask you something?” She asked after a few moments of silence.
“Of
course, love. Ask me anything.” He placed his hand on her knee.
“Why
are you here? I mean… You showed up so suddenly, and when I asked you to stay…
before… you said you had to work… I mean, I’m just wondering…”
Luke
smiled. “That’s okay... I came because I missed you… And I was sitting at home
missing you, and thinking about how much I missed you and feeling completely
miserable, and Taylor called me. He said you were really missing me, and he
offered to pay for my flight. So I jumped at the chance.”
“
“Yeah,
it shocked me too… but you know what? It’s worth it… I’m just glad to be with
you.”
Jen smiled. “I’m glad you came…Can I, uh, stay in here with you tonight?”
“Of
course you can.” He smiled. “I want to spend every second with you.”
“Good.
Because you’re stuck with me.” She leaned forward and
kissed him.

Becky
was sitting next to Zac as she completed a word search in a magazine she had
purchased at the store with Christy. Zac sat up in bed next to her, watching a dirt-bike
race on TV.
Becky
yawned and put aside the magazine and her pencil.
She
slipped across the bed under the blankets and wrapped her arms around Zac’s
body, resting her head on his shoulder.
“Tired,
babe?”
“Kind of. You?”
“Not really, actually. But I’ll turn the TV off if it bothers
you.”
“No,
it’s alright. The TV doesn’t bother me. I’m sure right now I could sleep
through a bomb if I had to.”
He
laughed. “Really? But you’re usually such a light
sleeper. You wake me up every time I start to snore and tell me to roll over.”
“That’s
because your snoring shakes the house.”
He
laughed. “Would you be shocked if I told you that I’ve heard that before?”
“Nope.” She laughed.
Zac
clicked off the television and tossed the remote across the room, where it
landed on a chair.
“Zac? What are we doing tomorrow?”
“I
have to go to the studio for a bit. I doubt highly that it’ll be a full day…
all this studio time is starting to cost a lot, and we’re really only using the
time for material for the next album.”
“Oh…
I thought maybe we could do something… you know? Just us…”
He
smiled. “I know.”
“And
when the tour starts, you’re going to be busy, and tired, and we’ll all be
stuck on the bus. We’d be together, but not alone together… I mean, I’m not
complaining or anything. I just thought we could take a day… a day together.”
Zac
wrapped his arms tightly around her. “I know. How about tomorrow night? We
could make plans… I don’t know what we’ll do, but we can go out on a date…”
Becky
smiled. “Really? I’d love that.”
“Okay.
I’ll take you out, if you can think of something to do.”
She
laughed. “Sounds like a plan.”
