Chapter ninety-one:

Jenna found herself awake around two in the morning.

She carefully got out of bed and snuck down the hall. She crept down the stairs to the kitchen for a bottle of water.

The first floor was dark, but there was a bright light in the kitchen. Jenna stepped into the kitchen to find Taylor standing with the fridge door open, as he drank a bottle of water.

Jenna drew in a deep breath. “Hey, Tay.”

He swallowed hard. “Hey.”

“Just get in?” She inquired, reaching past him for a bottle of water.
”Yeah… yeah, I did.”

“Oh. Did you have fun?” She asked. She felt slightly awkward standing next to him in a tank top and bright pink pajama pants.

“A little.” He shrugged, closing the fridge door. He crossed the room and clicked on the overhead light.

She watched him cross the room and pull out a chair at the table.

“Listen, I need to talk to you.” She leaned back against the counter. “Luke told me… that you called him and asked him to come here.”

Taylor sighed. “He told you that?”

She nodded. “He said you even paid for his ticket.”

“It’s true.” Taylor said reluctantly.

“I… I don’t understand, Tay. You said you had feelings for me, and just when I’m about to break up with my boyfriend, you send him out here? I mean… I’m confused.”

Taylor raked his hands through his hair “I know. I don’t fully understand it myself. I just… I saw how upset you were. And I know how happy he makes you… and even if I can’t ever be the one who makes you that happy… I want you to be happy. Even if it’s with him.” Finally, he looked up at her. “Does that make me seem like a total looser?”

She shook her head. “No… that makes you the sweetest guy on the planet.”
”It’s the same thing.” He rolled his eyes.

Tay… I can’t tell you how much it means to me that you would do something like that. I’m so surprised…”

“Yeah, well…” He blushed slightly.

Tay, thank you so much.” She crossed the kitchen and hugged him lightly.

Uncomfortably, he put his arms around her loosely, and returned the embrace.

He didn’t want things to be weird between them, but he knew they already were.
”Listen, Jen.” He said finally, releasing her. “I don’t want this to be awkward between us. I shouldn’t have said anything. I’m quite comfortable with hiding my feelings for you. Let’s just pretend I never said anything, okay?”

“I’ll try.” She smiled sympathetically. “I should go to bed.” She patted his shoulder and walked past him.

“One more thing?” He asked, turning in the chair.

“Yeah?”

“Don’t let it get out that I’m a nice guy, okay?”
Jenna laughed. “Sure.”

Christy woke to Isaac rummaging around the room.

“Baby?” She sat up, pulling the blankets to her chest.

“Yeah?” He responded, sitting in a chair to pull on a pair of socks. “Sorry. Did I wake you? You can go back to sleep, it’s still pretty early.”

“You’re going to the studio today?”

“Yeah, didn’t I tell you?”

“I don’t think so.”

“Sorry. I’ve got to go today though. Maybe we could get together later? Tonight?”
Okay…”
”I was thinking this morning in the shower. We were discussing picking a date for the wedding. How about within the last two weeks of September? We’ve got two weeks off between tour dates; we could get married, and then finish out the tour, then off on our honeymoon before Christmas.”

“That’s soon. Ikey, that’s only a four month engagement… that’s soon.”

“I know, but I think we can pull it off. We’ll have a lot of help, and I absolutely can’t wait to marry you.”

“I can’t wait either. The last week of September will be perfect.” She was clearly attempting to hide her excitement.

He smiled at her, and crossed the room. He bent to kiss her lips.

She tightly grasped his t-shirt in her hands. “Ikey… stay…” She begged, kissing him again. “Please?”

“I can’t, honey.” He grinned, but kissed her again. “I have to work.”

“Hmmm… stay… I’ll make it worth your while… hmmm?” She asked between kisses.

Entirely distracted, he continued to kiss her, following her as she lay back in the bed, pulling him on top of her.

She kissed him deeply, tangling her hands in his hair.

Mmmm… wait, wait!” He protested, pushing himself up by his hands on the bed. “I really have to go.” He grinned lopsidedly. “I have to work.”

“No, baby… baby!” She protested.

He got up from the bed and grabbed his wallet off the dresser, slipping it into his back pocket. “I really have to go. As much as I’d love to stay here with you, I’ve got to work.”

She sighed. “Alright. You can go… but give me a kiss goodbye.”

He grinned. “I think I already did.”

“No, I want a proper kiss.” She pouted.
