Chapter
seventy-seven:
Zac finished
brushing his teeth and stepped into his room.
Officially the room was his, but he wanted to share with Becky.
The room felt empty without her, and he wasn’t sure if he would be able to
sleep.
He found the
remote to the small television in the room and clicked it on. He crossed the
room, turned out the light, and climbed into bed.
Zac leaned
against the headboard and pulled the blankets over his bare legs. He flipped
channels until he found some show about cars which was remotely interesting,
and stopped to watch.
After a while,
he was interrupted by a voice. “Zaccy?”
He looked up and
in the shadows of the room was Becky. “Hey, Becca. Everything okay?”
She nodded. “Jen
kind of wants to be alone… Can I stay in here with you?”
He grinned. “Of
course you can.”
Becky crossed
the room and climbed into his bed. “What are you watching?”
“Ah,
nothing. You can pick
whatever you want and we can watch that.”
Becky smiled,
“Not this argument again!”
He laughed. “Alright.”
Becky moved
closer to him and rested her head on his shoulder.
“Tired?”
“Just
a little.” She
smiled.
“Lets go to sleep then.” He wrapped his arms around her body.
“No,
its okay. You can
watch your show…”
He laughed.
“Don’t argue with me.” He clicked off the TV, and curled up with her.

Christy was
awake to see off Isaac, Taylor and Zac as they went to the studio. She had
prepared coffee for them and tried to help them the best she could as they got
themselves breakfast. At last she had kissed her fiancé good-bye and tried to
clean up the kitchen, which looked as though a hurricane had gone through it.
Finally, she sat
down across from the bodyguard at the table, as he was reading the newspaper.
“Jimmy? What are
the rules for today?”
“Hardly
any. Though you’re
still restricted to the house and the property, but other than that, I’m really
just here if you need me. Though I think it’s a good idea if you girls keep
your cell phones on and with you at all times just in case.”
“Okay, that’s
great.”
Becky came into
the kitchen, having dressed and showered. “Hey, did I miss them leave?”
“Yeah, they left
about twenty minutes ago.” Christy replied.
“Damn. I was
hoping to say goodbye.”
“I’m sure Zac
will call later.” Christy added.
“That’s true. He
probably will.” Becky got herself a bowl and the box of cereal. “Has Jen come
down yet?”
“No,
not yet. Is she still
upset?”
“She won’t admit
it, but she misses Luke, and she worries about a long distance relationship.”
“It’s got to
suck.” Christy observed.
Becky poured
milk into her cereal and placed the carton back in the fridge. “I know when Zac
and I were apart it was hell, but we visited each
other a lot more than Luke and Jen are able to. It’s been, what, two weeks
since they saw each other last? He was supposed to call, and hasn’t. And of
course, you know Jen, she won’t be the one to call
first…”
Christy sighed
heavily. “It’s too bad we can’t leave the house, a little retail therapy might
just fix everything.”
