Chapter six::
Jenna sat on the floor of the room she occupied in Becky’s house.
The speakers on her CD player were blaring Marilyn Manson loudly.
There was a knock on her door.
“Come in!” She called, entirely expecting Becky.
“I thought I heard crappy music coming from somewhere.” He shouted.
“What?”
He clicked off the CD player. “Your music sucks.”
“Whatever.” She rolled her eyes.
“What are you doing?”
“Painting my toenails.”
He sat down on the end of her bed. “Want to do something else?”
“Like what?”
“What’s there to do here?”
“Nothing. Absolutely nothing.”
“Okay, let’s go for a walk then. Show me around. I’m sick of sitting in the house all day.”
“Look out the window. That’s pretty much it. I think it’s going to rain too.”
“Okay, how about a movie? Blair Witch Project?”
“Okay. But someone will have to hold my hand.” She got to her feet.
……………………………
Christy and Isaac were running through the rain, stopping beneath the canopy of Christy’s apartment building just as it started to pour.
Isaac laughed, lifting his sopping wet hair off his forehead.
She giggled and wrapped her arms around his neck, playfully planting a delicate kiss on his lips.
He pulled her closer and returned the kiss.
“What was that for?” He grinned when the kiss broke, his hands still on her hips.
“Do I need a reason to kiss you?” She asked, her arms still around his neck.
“Sure.”
“Hmm… well, let’s just say you’re cute when you’re soaked.” She giggled and kissed him again.
He grinned wider and leaned his forehead against hers. “Yeah, well you’re cute all the time.” He hugged her tightly and lifted her off the ground in a fit of giggles before finally setting her down on her feet.
She smiled at him.
“Come on, let’s go put some dry clothes on before we get pneumonia, hmm?” He pushed a dripping lock of hair over her shoulder.
“I like that idea.” She took the hand he offered her, leading the way to the elevator.
She pressed the button and pulled him closer lowering her voice. “Can I tell you a secret?”
“Okay,” He leaned closer to her.
“I’ve never been in a relationship before. This feels so… real.” She smiled.
“I know. I feel it too.” He smiled.
The elevator dinged and they got out in a hall. She led him to a door, and unlocked it, letting them both inside.
They dried themselves with towels she brought from the bathroom and sat down with coffees.
She sat next to him on the sofa. “Hi.”
He smiled. “Hi.”
“What do you want to do now?”
“Want to pack?”
“I guess I should, but it will take me ages. What are we doing when we get to Tulsa?”
“We have a radio performance thing right away and then a couple days off.”
“Okay, cool.”

Becky found Zac in the living room. “Hey, what are you up to?”
”Nothing much, just watching TV.” Zac said, not bothering to look up.
”Oh. Where are Taylor and Jen?”
”I think he went to tell her to turn her music down.”
Becky nodded. “You know, if you’re like totally bored, I know something we both can do to have fun.”
”Really? What’s that?” He asked intrigued.
”Come and see.” She grinned. She led the way down the front steps and to the basement. She paused outside the door. “Now, this is totally top secret. You can’t tell anyone about this.” She lowered her voice.
”Oh really? Or what?”
”They’ll think I’m like a total dork.” She laughed and pushed open the door, leading to a large game room with a bar in one corner and an air hockey table in the center of the room.
”Wow!” He approached the table and laid his palms on it. “My kind of girl!”
He regretted that as soon as the words were out of his mouth. He liked her, and she was quickly becoming a friend, but he hadn’t meant the phrase to sound so… odd.
Becky didn’t say anything, but instead switched the table on. “Come on, I bet I can beat you three out of five games.”
”Really? That sounds highly unlikely.” He challenged.
”Please, I could beat you thirty out of fifty games, if it came to that.” She laughed.
”Okay. Put your money where your mouth is, babe.” He smiled.
