Chapter forty-two:

Jenna had escaped outside when her cell rang, and was entirely relieved when it was Luke.

They had now been talking for nearly an hour now. Jenna knew it was probably costing a fortune, but they were having such a great conversation, she wanted to keep it going as long as possible.
”So, I was thinking about taking a week off from work and coming to visit you… I’d like to see you before the tour ends…”

“You’d do that? Won’t it be really expensive?”

“Yeah, kind of. But I worked hard all summer, and I made a lot over overtime wages. I want to see you. I really like you.”

Jenna smiled. “I like you too.”

“And I think it might get a little harder to see you when we’re both back in school, you know? I still want to see you as often as I can, and I think this relationship can really work, if we try.”

Jenna smiled even wider. “I think so too.”
”Good.”

“Do you… do you think we’re moving too fast?” Jenna asked, twirling a strand of her hair around her finger.
”No, not at all. I mean, this is the first real serious relationship I’ve ever been in… and it feels… right. You know?”
”Yeah, I know.” Jenna smiled. “So, when do you think you’ll be coming out to visit?”

“Well, I’m not exactly sure. I’m going to try and get a last minute flight, because it’ll be cheaper to fly last minute.”

“Okay.”

“I just don’t know how that will go over at work, you know with booking time off.”

“You could call in sick…”

He laughed. “I am very tempted to do that.”

“Where do you work?”

“Well, my uncle got me this job at the company he owns. I’m basically sorting mail, and making copies, and running errands. I guess you have to start at the bottom and make your way to the top, right?”

“Sounds like it. Do you enjoy it?”

“Yeah, it’s great. And money is money, right?”

“True.”

There was a long pause.

“Look, Jen, I’ve got to go. It’s getting kind of late, and I’ve got to be up at five tomorrow.”

“Okay, I’ll talk to you later.” Jenna hugged her knees tightly to her chest to warm herself.
”Definitely. I’ll call you tomorrow night?”

“Sure.” Jenna smiled.

“Alright, bye for now.”

Zac knocked on Taylor’s hotel room door, waited a split second then knocked again out of impatience.

He heard Taylor grumble from inside, then the locks click and at last, the door opened.

Taylor’s hair was sticking up at every imaginable angle, and he was dressed only in an oversized t-shirt and boxer shorts. “What?” He asked, clearly half asleep.

Tay, I need some advice.” Zac spoke quickly.

“So go ask Isaac.” Taylor rolled his eyes, but shoved open the door so Zac could enter anyway.

“I tried, but he wasn’t in his room.”

“Gee, thanks.” Taylor rolled his eyes, and flopped down on the sofa. “What’s up?”

Zac folded himself into a chair and propped his feet up on the coffee table between an empty Starbucks cup and a stack of neatly folded pants.

“I’m not sure… Becky has been acting kind of funny lately…”

“Funny? How?”

“I don’t know… just… funny.”

“Okay. ‘funny’ like… secretly mad at you… or ‘funny’ like… women’s issues?”

Zac made a face. “Gross… I guess she could be secretly mad at me… But I don’t think I’ve done anything wrong…”

“Yeah, but that’s how they get you. They get mad at you over something small and blow it way out of proportion.”

“Okay… Well, what do I do?”

“Well, I would suggest flowers… and a long conversation.”

“Okay… Okay, I’ll do that.” Zac stood.
”Yeah, but, uhh… wait until morning, though, right?”
