Chapter two hundred and eighty-nine:
He had called Bella at his lunch break and made plans to go to her
apartment to watch movies. She said she would go to the video store and pick
out a handful of movies if he would pick up Chinese food for dinner.
He was so excited at the prospect of an actual relationship with a
girl he actually liked; he was determined not to rush things.
He stopped back at the house, showered and changed before driving
to pick up the necessary ingredients for his date.
Luckily, he had managed to escape from the house while everyone
else was eating dinner. This allowed him to sneak out without catching any
annoying curious questions from anyone who dared to ask.
He went to his favorite Chinese restaurant and ordered a vast
assortment. This was enough food for about five people, but
He walked into the liquor store, and smiled politely at the
cashier and went straight to the back of the store.
He selected the fanciest bottle of wine on the shelf and carried
it to the cash register.
He paid for the wine, and silently thanked himself for remembering
to place an extra condom in his wallet.
He wasn’t necessarily hoping for something to happen, but if it
did, he wanted to be prepared.
He took the bottle from the cashier, smiled again and made his way
out of the store.

Christy was standing at the kitchen sink, softly humming along
with the radio. She rarely paid attention to the songs, but could pick out the
bare essentials, quickly enough to hum along.
Becky, Jen, Zac and Luke had gone to a concert; some band that
were friends with Isaac, Taylor and Zac, leaving Christy and Isaac alone to
occupy the house.
She lifted a dish from the soapy water in the sink and using the
brush, cleaned it thoroughly. She dipped it into the clear water in the second
sink before placing it on the dish rack.
They had a dish washer, but when it filled, Christy enjoyed the
brief moments of solitude that it took to do the dishes by hand.
“C, honey, why are you doing that?” Isaac
asked, coming into the kitchen from the other room. He had taken a call from
their producer in the office for privacy and ended up a good hour on the phone.
He insisted he wanted to help her clear the dishes, but Christy
didn’t want to wait. She wanted to get the work done and over with so she could
spend the rest of the evening with her husband in peace.
“It’s okay, it’s not really that much. Just a couple of plates. I’m almost done.” She insisted.
“At least let me dry.” he offered, picking up a dish towel.
“Okay,” She laughed, “If you insist.”
He smiled and wrapped his arms around her body gently.
“Honey, I’m pregnant. I won’t break.” She smiled.
“I know that.” He sighed. “I love you.”
“I love you too.” She giggled.
Before long, the dishes were complete, and Christy carefully
drained the water from both sinks.
“You know what we haven’t done in a while?” Isaac asked.
“What?”
“We should go see a movie. Is there anything you’d like to see?”
She paused and considered it. “I’m sure there’s something we could
choose. I would love some popcorn right now.” She smiled, and placed her hands
on her stomach.
“Okay.” Isaac grinned and placed his hands on her stomach too. He
still couldn’t feel a change. However he assumed he still had about six months
left to feel for their baby.
