Chapter two hundred and ninety:
Becky followed closely behind Zac, holding onto his hand tightly.
She had a tight grip on his thumb, and used it to follow him through the crowd
of people at the show.
Becky had never heard of this band before, but the more they
played, the more she didn’t mind their music.
Zac came to a stop in the middle of the crowd and turned to face
her.
“Let’s dance!” He shouted to be heard over the music.
Becky laughed. “I think I’ll sit this one out!” She shouted back.
“No!” He protested. “Dance with me!”
Becky smiled. “Okay fine.”
He started jumping around in circles, and soon he was leaning
backward and twisting his body in weird ways, which only made her laugh harder.
“What?” He asked, shuffling his feet to the music. “I’m a good
dancer!”
“I don’t know you!” She laughed and turned to walk away.
“Come on!” He laughed, wrapping his arms around her tightly,
holding her from behind.
She laughed. “You dance like a maniac!”
“Alright, then I’ll dance normally.” He bargained.
“I’d like to see that.” She teased.
Zac laughed. “Come back to the dance floor.”
Becky raised her eyebrows. “No way, you dance for me first, then I’ll decide if I want to dance with you.” She laughed
playfully.
Zac laughed. “That wasn’t the bargain and you know it! Get that
cute little butt of yours out here and dance with me!” He shouted over the
music.

Jen was sitting in a booth at the back of the bar with Luke. She
sipped her diet coke from a small red straw and swirled the ice around in her
glass.
“You know, the music isn’t that bad.” Luke observed.
“No, they’re actually quite good.” Unable to shout loud enough,
Jen had to lean closer to him, which meant she was sitting closer to him than
normal. Not a fan of public displays of affection, she couldn’t help but feel
nervous. “The lead singer is really obnoxious, though.” She mused.
“How do you figure that?” Luke asked. He hadn’t noticed.
“Well, he can’t dance, and he keeps thumping his fist on his chest,
like an ape. He also seems to be under the impression that he can rap.”
Luke laughed, “Now that you mention it, you’re right.”
During the lull in conversation, he carefully reached out and
tucked a stray lock of hair back from her face. “Listen, Jen. This probably
isn’t the time or the place to bring this up, but last night… is there… is
there anything you weren’t telling me? You seemed pretty freaked out…”
Jen smiled and looked down between them. She picked up his hand
and held it in both of hers beneath the table, a gesture that made him a little
nervous.
“It’s really nothing.” Jen replied, barely audible over the music.
“I just keep thinking about what those people did before, and how easily it
would be for them to do something again. I know I locked those windows last
night. I always check, and somehow they opened themselves… it would be so easy
for someone to come in through one of those windows…”
Luke gave her hand a reassuring squeeze. “Jen, don’t worry okay?
We’ve excellent security and a good alarm system. On top of that we’ve got
Jimmy the body guard. And with me next to you, I promise you’ll be safe.”
This brought a smile to her lips at last.
She rested her head tentatively on his shoulder.
