Chapter two hundred and seventy eight:
Christy changed
into one of Isaac’s old t-shirts which had been stretched in the wash, and
pushed her feet into the complimentary hotel slippers.
She shuffled
through the living room and into the kitchen. From the pile of snack food on
the kitchen table, she eagerly selected the bag of licorice ropes. She tore
into the bag, and stuck one into her mouth.
She heard the
key in the lock, and the door opened.
Isaac came into
the room and smiled at her. “Brought you some ice.” He
held up a bucket of ice.
“Thank you.” She
offered him a licorice rope.
“No thanks.” He
laughed. “Any weird cravings yet?”
She shrugged.
“Nope… though I do have a weird desire to stick a spoon in that bucket and eat
the ice…”
He laughed.
“Knock yourself out.”
“Which movie are
we watching first?”
“Anything you
want.” He offered.
“No, you pick.”
She smiled. “I’ll put some chips in a bowl and meet you in there.”
“Okay.” He
caught her around the waist, and bent to kiss her lips.
Christy giggled
and returned his kisses.
“What was that
for?” She grinned, wrapping her arms around his neck.
He shrugged. “I
don’t really need a reason, do I?”
“No, baby, you
can kiss me any time.” She teased.
He laughed and
released her slowly, walking into the living room to find the stack of DVDs.
Christy removed
a bowl from the cabinet, standing on her toes to do so. She hummed to herself
as she heard the television turn on. She opened the bag of cheesies
and dumped the entire bag into the bowl. She left the empty bag on the table.
She carried the
bowl into the living room, and curled up on the sofa.
Isaac pushed a
DVD into the machine, and sat down next to her with the remote. He turned to
see her hugging her bare legs and stood again. He retrieved a blanket from the
bed, which he promptly wrapped around her.
Christy smiled,
hugging the blankets around her shoulders. “You spoil me baby.”
“I know.” He
beamed, gently kissing her forehead. “And I don’t plan to stop, so get used to
it.” He placed both hands over her stomach. “And I’m going to spoil our baby
too.” He bent and tenderly kissed her stomach.
This sent
Christy into a fit of giggles. “Stop! That tickles!”

Zac was watching
an old action movie on one of the upper channels of the satellite in the house.
His left hand was still rested on the remote, while his right arm was circled around
Becky’s shoulders.
Becky turned her
head again to look out into the hall. She had heard a noise and had been hoping
that it was Jen or Luke returning.
“Where are
they?” She muttered under her breath. “What if she missed him? What if he was
already on a plane when she got-“
“Becca… relax.
I’m sure she got there in time, okay?” He chuckled.
“What if she
didn’t?” Becky asked. “It would be the end of their relationship in a
heartbeat.”
“I don’t think
Luke really wanted to get on that plane anyway.” Zac mused.
“How do you
know?”
“Because
if he did, I’ll kick his ass myself.”
Becky laughed.
“I doubt it. You’re not a fighter, Zaccy.” She looped her arms around his neck.
“Nah, that’s
right. I’m a lover, baby!” He nuzzled her neck playfully.
Becky shrieked
with giggles, scrambling to move away. She finally stopped fighting him when he
had her pinned to the sofa, teasingly.
He bent and
kissed her shoulder softly. “Why don’t you go to bed?”
“No, it’s okay.
I’ll stay here with you.” She smiled up at him.
“But you’re
clearly not interested in it.” He countered.
She shrugged. “I’d
rather stay with you.” She paused then laughed. “That’s lame isn’t it?”
He bent and
kissed her nose gently.
“I’ll go up and
take a bath. Will your movie be over by the time I get
out?”
“Probably.” He shrugged, moving to let her get up.
Becky grinned
and leaned over, kissing his lips slowly. “Don’t be too late.”
