Chapter two
hundred and seventy nine:
Jenna parked
She managed to
sneak past airport security, by exchanging polite conversation with an elderly
couple; pretending she was with them.
She broke away
from the masses and searched frantically for the ticket booth.
She hoped that
she could catch Luke before he even purchased his ticket.
She scanned the
line quickly, but didn’t see him.
Jen shoved her
hand through her long hair quickly.
“God damn it.”
She cursed out loud, drawing attention from a woman holding a young toddler.
The woman’s eyes were wide in alarm, but Jen doubted her language had caused
any permanent damage to the child. The toddler looked no older than two; and
would be unable to comprehend or even remember the word.
Jen turned to
venture further into the airport terminal, sweeping her glances from side to
side, in hopes of finding someone who matched Luke’s description.
From across the
sitting room, she caught a flash of blond hair. Jen squeezed her way between
the crowds of people who were milling around, and moved closer to what she had
seen.
She lost it, she
had been so sure it was Luke’s hair, and now she had lost him again.
“Fuck,” She
cursed under her breath and pushed her way through the people, not caring that
she was practically bulldozing people down.
She couldn’t
ignore the gnawing feeling in her throat that she had missed him. The thought occurred
to her that he might already be on a plane to
Through the
throngs of people, she caught another glimpse of blond hair, this time, a face
coming into view.
“Luke!” She
called out.
The people who
had been blocking her way seemed to move aside so she could easily get through.
Suddenly, she
was standing right in front of him. He dropped his duffle bag in surprise, and
she was at his side in a split second.
“Luke!” She
cried, grasping the front of his hoodie in her hands.
“Luke, wait, don’t go! We can work this out, I know we can! I’m so sorry, just
please stay!” She was suddenly near tears.
“No, I’m sorry.
You were right, love. Let’s work this out, okay?” He placed his hands on her
sides.
“I’m so glad I
caught you in time!” She gushed, still holding tightly to him.
“I can’t get a
flight out until tomorrow.” He explained.
“Come back to
the house, Luke. We can talk through this, okay?” She practically begged.
He looped his
arms around her and hugged her. “It’s okay. We’ll work things out, okay?”
He hoisted his
bag over his shoulder and followed her to the parking lot.
“Where did you
park?” He asked.
“Right
here.” She pressed
the unlock button on the keys and popped the trunk.
“
She nodded. “I
really want to work this out.”
“Me
too.” He smiled,
closing the trunk. “Let’s start right now.”
“What?” She
asked in confusion. “How?”
He leaned
forward and kissed her lips, catching her completely off guard. She backed
against the car in shock, but soon returned his kisses.
