Chapter two hundred and sixty seven:
”Honey?”

Christy woke slowly to the sound of Isaac’s voice. She hadn’t even realized that she had fallen asleep in the passenger seat of Isaac’s rental car.

“Wake up.” He urged gently.

She assumed she must have been sleeping for quite some time. It had been daylight when she climbed into the front seat, but now it was pitch black outside.

She sat up normally, tilting her head from side to side to remove the kinks from her neck. She stretched her arms out in front of her and stretched her legs.

“Where are we?” She asked.

He shrugged with a grin. He was still staring ahead at the narrow patch of road in the car’s headlights.

Christy could tell by the lonely road they were on and the trees lining either side of the road.

“Honey!” She cried with a smile, “Where are we going?”

“Well, I thought we could use a little vacation, C.”

“Really? Baby!” She threw her arms around his shoulders.

“You don’t even know where we’re going yet.”

“Okay, where are we going?”

“I can’t tell you.”

“Baby!” She grinned. “You’re such a tease!”

“Yeah, I know.” He chuckled, slowing the car to a crawl and turning into a cobblestone driveway.

Christy sat forward eagerly, desperate to know where they were going. Eventually, a large mansion came into view. The sign over the massive front doors read “Grapevine Inn” in large gold lettering.

“Honey!” She gasped. “It’s beautiful!”

He shrugged. “The co-producer of our next album suggested it. He brought his wife here for their tenth wedding anniversary, and I thought it would be nice for you and I to get away for a weekend.”

“It’s perfect. But… I don’t have any clothes or-“

“It’s all in the trunk.” He grinned, finally glancing sideways at her. “I spoke to the girls and they packed a bag for you, with everything that you’ll need.” He pulled the car into a parking spot and turned off the engine. “And the best part, there’s a cute little mall around here somewhere, and the view from our room is spectacular.”

Christy smiled. “I love you.”

“I love you more.” He teased.

“Definitely not possible!” She smiled.

She climbed out of the car and walked around to the trunk as he locked the doors. He popped the trunk and before she could reach out her bag, he hoisted both bags onto his shoulder and led her up the driveway, and up the stairs.

Christy yawned tiredly, as he gently ushered her along. “Tired?” He asked softly.

“A little.” She smiled.

“Here, babe.” He said, once they were safely inside. He led her to a chair and talked her into sitting down on one of the plush sofas in the reception room.

“Baby, I’m okay, I can-“ She protested, but quickly realized that arguing was pointless.

Isaac went to the front desk and removed his wallet from his back pocket, flipping through the billfolds in search of his credit card. Christy looked around the reception room, admiring a beautiful painting of the inn.

She was still admiring the painting when she heard Isaac’s voice entering her thoughts. “Ready C?”

She nodded and stood, following him to the elevator.

They got off on the fourth floor and walked down the hall several feet until they came to the appropriate room. He unlocked the door with the fancy old-fashioned key they had been given and let her in first.

She turned on the lights in the little formal living room and looked around in awe. Their room was a perfect one bedroom room with sunny yellow paint on the wall and perfect French furniture, loaded with pillows and antiques. She wandered into the bedroom and ran her fingers along the damask duvet and was distracted by the matching floor length curtains.

Isaac followed with a smile. She did the same routine every time they went to a new hotel. She parted the curtains and opened the door to the balcony, slipping through the sheers and out onto the balcony.

Worried about her being out in the cold so late, he rushed after her, and found her leaning over the rail.

“Honey look!” She cried in shock.

Their balcony faced a beautiful cliff that broke off into the Pacific Ocean. A lighthouse shone brightly in the distance.

“It’s beautiful, huh?” He asked, draping her shawl around her shoulders. “Don’t want you to get sick.” He smiled.

She wrapped her arms around his neck. “I love you. This is perfect!”

“I know, but that doesn’t mean you should skip out on your rest. You’re tired. Lets go to bed.”

Christy grinned. “I’ll go to bed, but I don’t intend on sleeping.”
