Chapter two
hundred and sixty eight:
He was actually
starting to enjoy working in the studio by himself.
He returned to
the house early in the morning, and wandered into the kitchen to brew some
coffee.
He found Jen
sitting at the table with a cup of yogurt.
“Hey,” He
greeted her, dropping his hand briefly onto her shoulder. He then crossed the
kitchen and scooped some coffee into the awaiting filter. He poured an entire
pot of water into the machine and flipped the button. “How was your date last
night?”
“Oh,
god. Don’t even ask.”
She groaned.
“I… I don’t want
to talk about it.” She sighed dropping her head into her hands.
“Come on,”
Jen stirred her
yogurt. It was obvious that she hadn’t taken a single bite. “It’s really more
of a… girl thing.”
“Uhh… okay.” He sat back in his chair. He’d never known her
to be so unwilling to talk about something that was bothering her so much. “If
you don’t want to talk about it, I won’t push it.”
“Thanks.” She
smiled.
“No problem.” He
returned her smile. “Well… what do you have planned for today?”
“Nothing.” She replied with a shrug. “I don’t know
if I can stand sticking around here all day long…”
“Alright… lets go out. Anything you want to do?”
“I don’t care,
as long as it’s as far away from here as possible.”
“Alright. Perfect.” He stood up and turned off the
coffee maker.
“Come on!” he
reached out his hand.
“Weren’t you
going to-“
He shrugged.
“We’ll stop at starbucks on the way.”

Zac woke to the
sound of Becky showering. She was usually awake early, but he usually managed
to sleep in. He had been tired, but decided he could no longer sleep.
He wandered down
the hall, determined to set up his latest video game console in the tv room, when he discovered Luke
coming out of his room.
“Hey!” Zac
greeted him, throwing an arm around his shoulders. “Up for
some video games? Name your game, and I’ll kick your ass at it.” Zac
taunted.
Luke laughed.
“Maybe later… I’ve got to find Jen…”
Zac raised his
eyebrows. “You lost her?”
“Kind of… We had
a fight last night and she insisted on sleeping in the guest room. I tried to
work things about but…”
Zac nodded
sympathetically. “I know what you mean.”
Luke laughed.
“She can be pretty stubborn.”
“Yeah, but
she’ll come around when she’s ready.”
“I hope so.”
Luke shrugged.
“She will. Take
your mind off it, let’s hook up the playstation.”
“Alright… Just
let me check on her.”
“Yeah, I’ll-“ Zac stopped when Jimmy the body-guard came from his room,
pulling the door closed behind him.
“Good morning.”
He greeted.
“Morning,” Luke
and Zac echoed.
“Jim,” Luke
immediately got to the point. “Have you seen Jenna this morning?”
Jimmy nodded.
“She left with
“Do you know
where they went?” Luke asked, trying to hide his confusion. He didn’t
understand why she would have gone off with
Finally, Luke sighed.
“I’ll call her cell phone... not that she’ll answer,
she’s pretty pissed at me.”
Zac clapped Luke
on the shoulder. “I’ll call

Becky climbed
out of the shower, and expecting Zac to still be asleep, took her time fixing
her hair and getting dressed. She coated her toenails a fresh shade of pink and
carefully wandered into the bedroom. She found the bed empty.
She set to work
making the bed neatly and fixing up the room. Humming a random song she had
heard on the radio. Zac had thrown his dirty clothes hastily over the back of a
chair.
Still humming,
she gathered these clothes and tossed them into a laundry basket. She dropped
to her knees and dug out the pair of balled up socks that Zac had accidentally
kicked under the bed.
She tossed them
into the laundry basket. She opened the closet and found Zac’s favorite jacket.
She took a daring sniff of the shoulder and decided it smelled more of sweat
than of his usual cologne. She dropped the laundry basket to the floor and
removed his jacket from the hanger. She had figured it would need washing. She
went through the pockets, knowing all to well that the last time she had washed
something of his she had washed a sharpie. Inside the pocket, she discovered a
plastic army-man, a guitar pick, thirty-six cents, a miniature sharpie, a ball
of Kleenex, a red rubber ball and a wad of gum.
She sighed and
left all of these items next to his watch on his nightstand. She didn’t want to
take the chance of throwing anything out.
She dropped the
jacket into the laundry basket and picked it up. She wandered out into the hall
and found Zac walking towards her.
“Becca,” He
urged. “You don’t have to do that… You know there’s a house keeper…”
Becky smiled. Balancing
the laundry basket on her hip, she kissed his cheek. “I know. I don’t mind.”
He grinned.
“Okay. Then let me make it up to you… want to go to the mall?”
Becky perked up,
“Okay!”
