Chapter two
hundred and sixty-six:
Zac sat with
Becky in the middle of their bed. She was sitting up against the headboard with
a bowl of popcorn balanced on a stack of pillows at her side. Zac was lying
across the bed, with his head rested in her lap.
They were
watching a lame television movie, which Zac had recognized immediately as a
chick flick, but decided not to push the issue.
Instead, he sat
quietly, feigning interest in the movie.
Becky had
thought the movie was interesting in the beginning, but soon grew bored with
it. Instead, she sat gently stroking his hair and also pretending to be
interested in the movie.
Zac smiled up at
her, and caught her hand in passing. He gently kissed the heel of her hand with
a smile.
Becky melted all
over again.
“You can change
the channel if you like, Zaccy. I think I’m going to take a hot bath and go to
bed.”
“Really?” He sat up. “Want anything? I could make
you some tea or something…” He offered.
Becky smiled.
“You don’t have to. You’ve been making such a fuss over me since you got back.”
“I know…” He
shrugged. “I missed you.”
“I missed you
too.” She got up from the bed and walked directly into the bathroom. Seconds
later, he heard the water running.
Zac stretched
and turned the television off manually. He stood in them middle of the room and
with his hands on his hips, surveyed the room.
Becky was
meticulously neat, but his suitcase was stuffed with clothes, and practically
overflowing.
He dropped his
suitcase onto the floor with a loud thump and tugged the zipper to open it.
He unpacked
quickly, not bothering to sort or fold his clothes, he
simply stuffed whatever he could into the drawers. He would go through
everything later.
Whilst
unpacking, he discovered his book hidden between his clothes in his suitcase.
He sat down in an armchair to read, and before he realized it, he had been
reading for nearly an hour. He tucked his book away on the nightstand and sauntered
toward the bathroom.
He found the
door slightly ajar. He couldn’t hear any movement from inside. Worried she
might have fallen asleep in the tub, Zac opened the door a little more. She was
slouched in a mass of bubbles with her eyes closed.
He approached
and crouched next to the tub. He didn’t want to startle her, so he tried to be
quiet. He gently touched her shoulder. “Becca?”
She jumped
slightly. “Oh! You scared me!”
“Sorry.” He
smiled, dropping to his knees. “I didn’t want to scare you, but I thought you
might drown or something if you fall asleep.”
“I won’t drown.”
She laughed.
He dipped his
fingers into the bathwater. “The water is cold! You’ll get sick!”
“I’m fine.” She
giggled. “I’ll get out in a second, okay?”
Zac grinned and
leaned over and kissed her lips. “Okay, just don’t fall asleep.” He teased.
--====================================================--
Jen followed
Luke into the dark theater. They were late and had arrived just after the
previews had started. They had the whole theatre to themselves and took two
seats in the middle of the back row.
He flopped into
a chair with their shared bucket of popcorn and plopped his over-sized drink
into the cup holder on the arm of his chair.
Jenna sat next
to him and crossed her legs neatly. She placed her drink in her own cup holder.
As Luke propped
his feet up on the row of seats in front of them, she took a small handful of
popcorn from the bucket in his lap.
“This is nice.”
She whispered. “We should do this more often.”
“Yeah, and it
gets better.” He reached into the pocket of his jeans and produced a bag of
skittles.
Jenna laughed. “My favorite! Thank you!”
She leaned over
to kiss his cheek, but he turned his head and kissed her lips instead.
Jen laughed when
the kiss broke, and leaned forward to kiss him again, this time leaning closer
to him and wrapping her arms around his neck.
Luke deepened
the kiss, lifting the armrest between them, and pulling her closer.
Jen lifted the
popcorn bucket from his lap. Luke moved it to the empty seat next to them.
Jen moved closer
and quickly climbed into his lap, kissing him deeply. She straddled his thighs
and pulled at his lips with hers.
Luke struggled
to keep up with her kisses, moving his hands along her back and touched her
long dark hair.
Jen chuckled
between kisses and removed her cardigan, slipping it from her shoulders and
dropped it onto her seat, leaving her in a snug spaghetti strap, t-shirt.
Luke could
hardly hide a smile as he reached for her lips again, kissing her passionately.
She raked her fingers through his hair, urging him to kiss her more.
His hand slipped
from her throat and down her shoulder, inching down the strap of her shirt. His
arms hands rested on her hips and pulled her closer to his body.
She reached for
his belt, when his hands shot out and stopped her. “Wait, Jen… Wait!”
They were both
breathing hard, desperate for air.
“I think… maybe
we should wait… I’m not ready to… I mean… it’s too fast…” He breathed.
Jen sighed in
frustration and shook her head. She reached for her cardigan and shoved her
arms through the sleeves, moving off his lap.
“Jen, come on-“ He began.
“I’m going
home.” She announced.
