Chapter two
hundred and forty-five:
Isaac got out of
the shower and dried himself off. He towel dried his hair briskly, and pulled
on a clean pair of boxer shorts.
Christy had been
tired after a long day on the bus, and then being stuck at the venue late until
all of the fans had left. In the end, while the guys had gone off to meet with
the fans who were gathered around the van waiting for them to come out, Christy
and Becky had snuck into a cab at the other entrance to retreat back to the
hotel.
Isaac clicked
off the bathroom light and walked into the bedroom, where Christy was nestled
in bed snuggly, with a book open in her lap. He smiled and climbed into his
side of the bed, moving over to be closer to her. “What are you reading now
honey?” He asked curiously.
“What to Expect
When You’re Expecting.” She replied without looking up. Instead, she flipped
the page and kept reading.
Isaac laughed
softly.
“What?” She
asked, finally looking up in confusion.
“I just think
it’s cute that you’re doing all this research into motherhood and babies and
pregnancy stuff. You’re only just over a month along, and you’re acting like
you’re studying for the SATs or something.”
“But baby, I
only have eight months of pregnancy left and I’ve got a lot to learn. I have no
idea what to expect. I’ve never even held an actual baby before. I’ve never
changed a diaper or fed a bottle to a child… I have absolutely no experience
when it comes to kids, and I’ve got to learn it all real fast.” She looked up
at him worriedly.
He smiled.
“Honey, it’s not that hard. You’ll pick it up when the baby comes.”
”But you had six siblings. You’ve got tons of experience when it comes to
babysitting and looking after kids. I don’t have any.”
“Relax, C. It’s
not that big of deal. You’re stressing out over this, and you’re not even
showing.” He tried to reason.
“I am stressing
out. Isaac, what if the baby comes and I don’t even know how to hold it right?
Or feed it? What if I don’t have that motherly bond with my baby that all these
books talk about? It’s such a huge responsibility and I’ve got no experience to
go on…” Her eyes welled up with tears.
“I’ll be there
to help.” He reassured, taking the book from her lap and tossing it to the
floor haphazardly. “And in another couple of weeks we can tell my mom about it,
and she’ll be there to give you all kinds of advice. Will that help?”
Christy nodded.
“Yeah, I think I feel a bit better about it now.”
“Are you sure?
Do you want me to get you some water or something? Calm you down a bit?”
She shook her
head. “No, it’s okay, really.” She smiled. “Let’s just go to sleep.”
“You
sure?”
She nodded.
“I’ll be fine.” She reached and turned off the lamp next to the bed, plunging
the room into darkness.
Isaac moved over
slightly to give her more room, and she curled up at his side, resting her head
on his chest.
His breathing
slowed rather quickly, and he was asleep in little time.
However, Christy
lay awake for several hours more.
