Chapter twenty four:
Christy
walked along-side Isaac through the mall. They had walked for nearly half an
hour before catching a cab across the city.
He
stopped to look in a clothing store, hesitating at a rack of jeans.
Christy
squeezed his hand and rested her chin on his shoulder, having to stand on her
toes to do so.
He
smiled. “Are you growing impatient?”
“No,
I don’t mind.” She smiled. “You don’t complain when I shop…”
He
laughed. “I don’t mind. Maybe… you can help? I was thinking about getting new
clothes for the upcoming tour…”
Christy
smiled. “Don’t you have a stylist for that?”
Isaac
chuckled. “No, are you kidding? Have you seen some of the shit
Christy
laughed at that. “Well, I guess I could try to help you pick something out… I
just don’t want to be one of those girlfriends who makes
a point of dressing their boyfriend everyday.” She said, but she was already
sorting through the rack.
“I
don’t mind, really. You have a great sense of style. Just don’t put me in
anything too horrendous.”
Christy
laughed. “I promise I won’t.” She selected a pair of jeans with sporadic tears
and faded parts. “But I think these scream sexy professional guitarist.”
He
laughed. “Really? I’ll try them on. Thanks.” He bent
and kissed her lips.
She
smiled. “Okay, but don’t go too far, I’m sure I’ll find more things for you to
try.” She teased.

Jenna
stood at the mirror in the bathroom of the restaurant, fussing with her hair.
“So,
what do you think of Luke?” Becky asked from one of the stalls.
“I
think he’s really sweet. He’s very normal and genuine. And he held the door for
me, I mean, I don’t think I’ve ever been in the
presence of an actual gentleman before.”
Becky
laughed and emerged from the stall. “I know. He’s very cute too.”
“That’s
true. But I like him a lot, so there has to be something wrong with him.” Jenna
sighed.
“What
do you mean?” Becky asked, turning on the tap to wash her hands.
“I
don’t know. Every guy I like has something wrong with them. I mean, he has to
have a flaw like all the rest… maybe he’s a secret mob don or a serial killer.”
Becky
laughed. “Or a major drug dealer?”
“No,
I’ve already dated one of those.”
Becky
laughed again. “No way. Seriously, I think Luke is
perfect for you. I mean, I’ve only known him as long as you have, but he’s very
charming and good looking and intelligent, and very very
sweet.”
Jenna sighed. “I know. I’m just a little hesitant. What if he turns like all
the rest?”
“I’m
sure he won’t.” Becky removed a lip-gloss from her purse. “Maybe we can split
up this afternoon and you can be alone with him for a bit…”
“Okay
thanks.” Jenna pulled a bottle of aspirin from her purse and took one without
water.
“Did
you talk to
“Not
yet. I couldn’t find him this morning. And I still don’t even remember what
exactly I did. I’m never drinking again.”
Becky
laughed.
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Becky
casually slipped her arm through Zac’s as they walked through the mall.
He
smiled at her.
“You
know, you’re an amazing matchmaker.”
“Yeah? Well it wasn’t easy.”
“Why’s
that?”
“Because you already got the best guy on the market.”
Becky
laughed.
“But
he likes Jen. He didn’t realize that when I invited him to hang out it was
going to be a double date. But then again neither did I...”
Becky
smiled and stood on her toes to kiss his cheek. “I know, but he was just too
good of an opportunity to pass up.”
“Uh-huh.”
“And
we get to be alone for a bit, and we get to spend time with our best friends
and each other all at once.”
“That’s
true.” He laughed. “That makes it worth it.”
“I
thought so.” She smiled.
“Okay,
so, is there anyplace you want to go while we’re here?”
“Hmm… not really. Where do you want to go?”
“Uhh…” In all honesty, he wanted to go to the arcade, but he
wasn’t going to complain. “I want to go where you want to go.”
Becky
laughed. “That is such a lame answer.”
“I
know. But I honestly don’t mind. Wherever you want to go.”
“Really? Anywhere I want to go?” She asked.
He
smiled. “Yeah, why?”
“Can
we go in here?” She stopped outside an Old Navy.
“Sure.”
He followed her into the store, holding onto her hand tightly, feeling slightly out of place in the women’s section.
Becky
examined a pair of khaki pants, picking up the first pair on the rack and
putting them back.
Zac
groaned internally. He didn’t understand they way Becky shopped at all. If it
were him, he would know exactly what he wanted and would go straight for it,
without bothering to consider style, cut, or what the latest issue of Cosmo
said about the item.
Not
that he would complain, he liked spending time with Becky, even if that meant
spending all day in Old Navy.
“Lets go.” Becky said suddenly.
“You’re
done?”
“No.
But you’re getting bored, I can tell.” She smiled. “So lets
go, Jen and I will come back tomorrow.”
“No,
no. I’m not bored.” He insisted. “Here, what about this?
It’s cute...” He picked up the closest item and held it up.
Becky
laughed. “Really, it’s okay. I want to go to a CD store anyway.” She tugged on
his arm.
“You’re
sure? You won’t be mad at me later?”
She
kissed his cheek. “I promise I won’t be mad.”
