Chapter two hundred and twenty seven:

Isaac and Christy had been up incredibly early in order to make it to her first official check up.

They were barely in the waiting room five minutes before the doctor ushered them in and the nurse got her prepped for the exam.

Once Christy was ready and in the oddly designed examination table, Isaac sat next to her in a small stool that the nurse had wheeled over for him.

He took Christy’s hand tightly in his. “Are you okay?” He asked.

She nodded. “Yeah. This is actually kind of exciting…” She smiled. “I feel really nervous though. Like this is a test in high school I didn’t study for.”

Isaac smiled.

“I’ll let the doctor know you’re ready and we’ll be back in a couple of minutes.” The nurse said politely.

“Thank you.” Christy returned her smile. Once the nurse had left she drew in a shaky breath. “I’m really glad you’re here for this.” She smiled.

“I wouldn’t miss it, C.” Isaac gently kissed her hand. “I plan to be here for all of this kind of stuff.”

“Good.” She smiled.

The door opened and a doctor came in with the same nurse as before.

“Hello, Mr. and Mrs. Hanson. I’m Dr. Weiss.” She spoke with a smile. “I understand you’re here for a pre-natal visit. And this is your first?” She checked the chart.

“Yeah, we’re just married.” Isaac replied, squeezing Christy’s hand.

“Great! Congratulations.” The doctor smiled. “I’ll have to do an ultra sound to see how things are going. But in the mean time, do you have any questions for me?” She asked, prepping machinery.

“Yeah, I have one.” Isaac spoke up, eyeing Christy carefully. “The morning sickness, it’s been pretty bad. I’m actually quite worried.”

The doctor smiled warmly, squeezing a cool gel onto Christy’s abdomen. “I’ve had three children myself and my morning sickness was absolutely brutal for the first child. But by my last, there was barely any sickness at all. I’ve had several mothers tell me the same thing. It could be just that it’s your first child and your body isn’t used to the change… but if it gets worse, feel free to call the clinic or if it gets really bad you can go to any emergency room and they’ll check to make sure everything is okay. I’ve also found that in a lot of cases where the morning sickness is really bad, it doesn’t last nearly as long.”

“Okay, that’s a huge help.” Isaac said honestly, distracted by the image on the screen of a tiny kidney-bean shaped spot.

“What about sex?” Christy asked suddenly. “During pregnancy. That’s okay, right?”

Isaac’s eyes widened significantly and he turned his eyes back to his wife. “Christy-“

The doctor laughed. “It’s normal, and definitely okay. I wouldn’t do anything too vigorous during the second and third trimester, but feel free.”

Isaac felt his cheeks blush a bright shade of red.

“What about orgasm, I mean-“

Isaac fidgeted uncomfortably.

“There are some really great books on the subject.” The doctor added. “The receptionist can give you a list of books which include everything that will answer your questions, even positions to try.”

Isaac blushed further, looking down at his hand which was still tightly holding his wife’s.

“That’s perfect, thank you.” Christy couldn’t help but find it hilarious that Isaac was so embarrassed.

The nurse cleared the gel from Christy’s stomach and the doctor gently pressed a few places that seemed random.

“Any nausea right now?” The doctor asked.

“No, right now I feel normal… yesterday I started feeling sick around eleven, and was sick right through to one in the afternoon.”

“That isn’t too bad, just three hours. Some women are sick right through their entire first trimester.”

God, that must be terrible.”

The doctor checked her blood pressure and drew some blood before announcing “I’ll need to do a physical exam, it’s a little invasive…”

Isaac studied Christy’s face for a moment. “Do you want me here for this or can I-“

“You can go.” She smiled. “If you can’t handle us talking about sex, I don’t think you’ll be able to sit through this exam.” Christy teased.

Without a word, Isaac stood and gently kissed her forehead, before exiting the room with surprising speed.
