Chapter two hundred and seventeen:

Becky had barely slept at all. She had tossed and turned for nearly two hours before slipping out of her bed, crossing the hall and slipping into Zac’s bed. Even then she barely slept.

While Jen was getting ready in their room, and Zac was in the shower, Becky had gone down to the kitchen and made herself some toast. But after one bite, she didn’t think she could eat the rest.

Becky couldn’t help but worry about Jenna. She wanted to tell Luke immediately, because she knew that if anyone could help her it was him. But telling Luke would be an immediate betrayal of Jen’s trust.

Becky sighed heavily.

The French doors to the kitchen opened and Luke stepped in. “Good morning.” He said cheerily.

“Good morning,” Becky forced a smile. “You’re up early.”

“I had a class this morning.” He admitted with a smile. “Is Jen awake yet?”

“She’s getting ready…. But…” She sighed. “I need to tell you something. Can you sit down?”

Uhh… sure.” Luke lifted himself onto the stool next to hers at the kitchen island. “Is it that serious?”

Becky nodded, not quite sure where to start. “Luke…” She paused. “Jen made me promise not to tell you, but I’m really really worried about her. I mean, I’m afraid that you’re the only one who can help her.”

Luke knitted his brow in confusion. “Becky, what is it?”

She drew in a deep breath. And without knowing what else to say, she simply blurted it out. “Jenna’s been making herself throw up, to loose weight. I don’t know how long she’s been doing it, but she’s skin and bones and-“

Luke dropped his forehead into his palm, not quite believing what he had heard. “I… I noticed the weight loss too…. I thought it was to do with the wedding.”

“It’s not. It’s way beyond that.”

Luke nodded finally. “Okay, I’ll talk to her.”

Becky touched his arm. “Wait, you can’t tell her I told you. She made me promise! She’ll never trust me again!”

“Okay.” Luke nodded. “I’ll find a way. But thank you… for telling me, you now? It really means a lot, and I appreciate it.”

Becky nodded. “I didn’t know what else to do.”

“I’ll get her help, okay?”

=====================================================

Taylor was impatiently waiting for his younger brother to emerge from the bathroom so he could have his turn in the shower.

He was actually beginning to regret the decision to move everyone back into the main house. At least with Zac in the pool house, Taylor got to use the shower while there was still plenty of hot water.

Finally the bathroom door opened and Zac surfaced from a steam-filled bathroom.

He had put on fresh clothes, but his hair was still soaking wet and dripping onto his t-shirt.

“Jesus Christ, Zac! Take long enough in there?”

“No, but if you’re okay with it, I could get back in there and use up the rest of the hot water…”

Taylor rolled his eyes. Zac wasn’t as funny as he thought he was.

“Don’t make me kick your ass.”

“I’d like to see you try.”

Luke appeared at the top of the stairs. “Hey guys!” He met Zac with a high-five. “What’s going on?”

“Oh, princess Taylor is whining about me delaying his beauty regime.”

Taylor rolled his eyes and pushed past his brother, slamming the bathroom door closed.

“Have you seen Jen yet this morning?” Luke asked Zac on the other side of the door.

“Not yet, why?”

“No reason, I’ve just got some things I want to talk to her about.”

Ahhh.” Zac replied slyly.

Taylor couldn’t help but feel suspicious.
