Chapter two hundred and sixteen:

Luke shot the yellow plastic game disk toward Zac’s end of the table. It soared past Zac’s paddle and into the goal with a loud clank.

The digital score flashed, signaling that the game was over, and that Luke had won narrowly by one point.

“Damn it!” Zac swore. “That was a total fluke. There’s no way you could do that twice!”

Luke chuckled. “I’m sure I could. You really do suck at this game!”

“I do not! I am a million times better than you are!”

Luke looked around and saw no glimpse of Becky and Jen. “Wait, where are the girls?”

“Don’t change the subject-“ Zac began.

“No, I’m serious. They’re not there!” Luke interrupted.

“Maybe they’re in the washroom.” Zac shrugged.

“They wouldn’t be gone this long. Something’s got to be wrong.” Luke walked away from the game with Zac at his heels. “We were supposed to watch them carefully.”

“It’s probably nothing,” Zac said catching up to Luke.

They arrived at the door to the women’s washroom just as Becky and Jen we’re coming out.

“Girls, everything okay?” Zac asked.

Becky eyed Jen. “Yeah, fine.”

“You’re okay? Really?” Luke took Jen’s hand, noticing immediately that there was something going on.

“Fine.” Jen smiled, which seemed a little forced.

Zac glanced at his watch, oblivious. “The movie is starting in ten minutes. We should get our snacks ready and get in there.”

“Yeah,” Luke said. “Jen, do you want some popcorn or anything?”

“Oh no thanks.” She began to decline, but noticed the malicious glare she was receiving from Becky then added. “Um, sure. I guess I wouldn’t mind a bit of popcorn.”

Luke furrowed his brow. Something was going on between them, but he wasn’t sure what.

Becky and Zac began walking towards the concession stand, but Luke intentionally lagged behind with Jen.

“Jen, wait.” He stopped, pulling her off to the side. “Are you sure everything is okay?”

She smiled and placed a hand on his shoulder. “Everything is fine. I swear.”

“Okay.” She began to step away from the conversation, but Luke pulled her back, still having a firm grasp on her hand. “Jen, wait.” He began.

“Sure.”

He released her hand and put his arms around her waist, pulling her closer sharply and kissed her squarely on the lips.

Christy was sitting up in bed, with a book on pregnancy open on her lap.

She was listening to the shower run and the birds sing through the open windows.

They were leaving in two days, but Christy didn’t want to leave. She wanted to get back to Tulsa and start getting their home ready for them to live in, but she knew they would be getting back to the tour schedule.

She sighed and turned the page.

The shower stopped and Christy continued reading until the door opened and Isaac came from the bathroom dressed in a pair of old jeans and a t-shirt.

“Still got your nose stuck in that book, huh?”

Christy smiled. “It’s really interesting. I’m learning all kinds of stuff I never knew.”

“Good. Maybe I’ll read it when you’re done.” He crossed the room, sitting on the edge of the bed. “What do you want to do today?”

“Hmmm…” She smiled, closing her book. “Let’s just stay in bed all day.”

He chuckled and leaned forward and kissed her. “Oh, I almost forgot.” He stretched sideways across the bed and reached into the drawer of the nightstand.

“You didn’t have to get me anything.” She smiled at his thoughtfulness.

He removed a long cardboard box from the nightstand and sat up, facing her. He gently balanced it on her knee.

“What’s this for?” She smiled, holding the box in her hands.

“Just a souvenir of our trip.” He smiled. “Open it.”

She smiled and gently lifted the top off the box to reveal a tiny sterling silver bracelet with tiny pink stones.

“Oh, honey! It’s beautiful! Thank you!”

He lifted the bracelet from the box and gently fastened it around her wrist. “

“Honey, you really didn’t have to do this!”

“I know I didn’t have to. I wanted you to have something to remember this trip.”

“I think we’ll both have something to remember this trip.” She placed her hand on her stomach.

He grinned. “I know. But I wanted you to have this.” He leaned foreword and kissed her forehead. “What do you want to do today?”

“I don’t know. What do you want to do?”

“Your choice.” He urged.

“No way. We’ve done everything I wanted to do. Let’s do something you want to do.”

“Ok… let’s… swim naked in the ocean, then have insanely passionate sex…. Oh wait, we already did that!” He teased.

She laughed. “Come on!”

He smirked. “Okay, let’s do some tourist things. Like wander around and see the sights.”

“Okay. That sounds like fun.”
