Chapter two hundred and nine:

Jen followed Luke into Zac’s pool house. Luke had barely spoken a word for the second half of the drive to the outskirts of town.

“Hey,” Zac stood up from the sofa. He moved his laptop from his lap and set it on the coffee table, closing the top.

“Hi, where’s Becky?” Jen asked, laying her purse by the door.

“She’s lying down.” Zac motioned towards the bedroom.

“Is she asleep?”

“I don’t think so. She was trying…”

Jen nodded. “I’ll go in and check on her.”

While walking through the living room, she heard part of Zac and Luke’s conversation.

“Did she tell you anything?” Zac asked.

“Not much. Fill me in.” Luke replied.

Jen walked into the dark bedroom where Becky was lying in the bed. Jen climbed in next to her and hugged her best friend. “Are you okay, Becky?”

“Yeah.” She replied softly.

Jen curled up next to her. “What did you find?”

“They know everything about us. It’s scary. They know our phone numbers…”

“I know.”

“And they have pictures of us. Right up to Christy’s wedding. I mean, how can they get those pictures… unless they were there?”

Jen placed a hand on Becky’s shoulder. “It’s okay. The guys will take care of it, I’m sure.”

“I know… It was just so shocking to see photos on the internet. I mean, Zac hasn’t even publicly admitted that I’m his girlfriend yet… How can you trust anyone if someone has leaked that information?”

“Try not to think about it, okay? How about we relax for a bit and then go out and do something? We could go to the mall or to go see a movie or something.”

“Okay, sure.” Becky smiled.

“Want me to go?”

“No, it’s okay.”

Taylor sauntered down from the main house to the pool house.

He knocked briefly on the door and walked in. Zac and Luke were lounging in the living room.

“Hey,” Zac looked up.

“Where are the girls?” Taylor asked in slight confusion.

Zac shoved his thumb in the direction of the bedroom. “Lying down.”

“Is Becky calmed down?”

“Yeah. She doesn’t want to be left alone. She’s pretty shaken up.”

“Yeah, I figured that. She sounded upset on the phone when I talked to her earlier… How’s Jen?”

Luke cleared his throat. “She’s… Jen. She’s being tough.”

“Yeah.” Taylor nodded. He assumed that would be the case.

“So, what’s going on? What happens now?” Zac asked.

“Well, they got the site down.” Taylor swallowed. “The lawyer went through the service provider and managed to claim it as an invasion of privacy.”

“Good.”

“But I’m starting to think it isn’t going to stop them.” Taylor finished.

“Right,” Luke continued. “They can just get another ISP and start the site back up again.”

“But I’m thinking that maybe the safest thing to do would be to hire a bodyguard.” Taylor suggested.

“Oh, shit.” Zac muttered, sitting back against the sofa.

“Why? What’s wrong with that?” Luke asked.

“We’ve tried it before. It didn’t go over too well.” Zac explained.

“The girls, especially Jen, go out of their way to disobey the body guard and prove that they can manage without one.” Taylor finished.

Luke sighed and dropped his forehead into his palm. “What if I talk to her? Do you think that will make a difference?”

“It might.” Zac shrugged.

“I think maybe we should all talk to the girls.” Taylor added. “Explain the gravity of the situation.”
