Chapter two hundred and ten:

After the doctor’s appointment, Isaac treated Christy to lunch at a quaint little outdoor restaurant, overlooking some waterfalls.

“Wow, this spot is beautiful, isn’t it?” Christy observed.

“It is, it’s breath taking.” Isaac smiled. However, he wasn’t looking at the view, he was looking at her.

Christy smiled and took a light sip of her water.

“Are you feeling okay?”

“I’m fine.” She smiled. “I’m happy that we’re together and married, and we’re going to have a baby.”

“I know. I can’t wait.” He grinned.

The waitress arrived and placed a massive plate of food in front of them both. Isaac had ordered the steak and vegetables, where Christy had ordered the fettuccini alfredo with chicken.

“Oh my gosh,” Christy laughed when the waitress had left. “I don’t know if I can eat all this.”

Isaac chuckled. “Just eat what you can and I’ll help you with the rest.”

“I honestly don’t know how you can eat so much.” She teased, moving her pasta around on her plate.

He shrugged. “I guess I have a hollow leg or something?”

Christy laughed.

“C, what do you want to do after this?”

“Umm… I wouldn’t mind going to a bookstore. I’d like to get a couple of books.”

“Sure. Looking for anything in particular?” He asked between mouthfuls of food.

“I want to get some books on pregnancy and kids.  I don’t really know anything about either. I mean, I’ve never even held a real baby in my arms.”

Isaac smiled. “You’ll be the perfect mom. I know it. And we’ve got nine months to get practice, right?”

“Okay.” She smiled, feeling slightly more at ease.

He reached across the table and gently placed his hand over hers. “I’ve taken care of six siblings, and I’ve changed a lot of diapers. I’m sure that we’ll be fine.”

Christy smiled, reassured. “Okay.”

They ate in silence for a few seconds.

“There’s an outdoor market downtown. We could go there and maybe pick up some souvenirs?”

“Okay, that sounds great… Honey, you have to try this pasta, it’s fantastic!” She offered him a bite.

Once the bill had been paid, they walked hand-in-hand to the center of the town, which was packed with people and vendors and tents filled with various goods.

Christy held his hand tightly while he navigated through the crowds of people to the first tent. “Wow, that’s a beautiful painting, look, C.” He pointed to a painting on part a slice of tree stump which depicted waterfalls and trees.

“Why don’t we get that? It’ll look great in the new house.” She pointed to a large wooden sculpture of a penis.

Isaac raised his eyebrows. “Please tell me you’re kidding.”

“No, we could put it in the bathroom.”

Isaac lowered his sunglasses.

“Honey, I’m kidding.” Christy laughed, squeezing his arm tightly. “I would never put that thing in our house.”

“Oh, thank God.” He laughed. “That’s the ugliest statue I’ve ever seen. I mean that not because it’s a giant…” He cleared his throat, awkwardly realizing how many people were around but I mean, its just tacky!”

“I know…” She noticed something over her shoulder and gravitated towards it. Isaac followed helplessly as she forgot to let go of his hand. She stopped in front of a vender which was selling handmade jewelry made from local rock.

“Look how beautiful,” she bent to admire the detailing closer, tucking her hand behind her ears with both hands.

Isaac smiled.
