Chapter one hundred and ninety seven:

Christy was up at four am the next morning. The girls had taken over half of the church basement in order to prepare for the wedding, leaving the men to occupy one small room to get ready.

After picking up Jenna and Becky, they were off to the church basement for hair, nails and make up.

While Jenna and Becky were working with the hair dresser on their hair, Christy had found the time to sneak off to the washroom.

She stood at the counter holding the pregnancy test in her hand which Jenna had managed to smuggle in for her.

She knew relying on a cheap pee-test was probably not the most accurate way to tell, but by then she pretty much had a gut feeling that she was pregnant, and about a month along.

Christy sighed and disposed of the test, which had come up positive.
She opened the door to find Jenna and Becky looking up expectantly. Jen was having her nails done and Becky was having her hair done up, but both pairs of eyes were now focused on her.

Christy nodded to them that her suspicions were correct then said simply. “I have to see Ike.”

She pulled her thin robe around herself and exited the room they were using as a dressing room.

By now, she was certain that the rest of the wedding party were in the building, although most were upstairs greeting guests.
She slipped through the hallway, feeling foolish because of the looks she received. She didn’t have anything on but a short silk robe and a pair of underwear; her hair was styled, her nails done and her make up flawless.
She eagerly knocked on the door which she knew the groomsmen were in and before she heard a response, she entered.

Inside, Isaac was alone, standing in front of a full length mirror and fussing with his tie.
”Isaac?”

He looked up in alarm. “Christy! You’re not supposed to be here! We’re not supposed to see each other before the wedding!” He turned around to face her. “It’s bad luck!”

“I know, but this is an exceptional excuse.” She said. “I have to tell you something.”

“You do? You aren’t having second thoughts are you?” He crossed the room in a few quick strides and took her hands firmly in his.

“No! No of course not!” She cried, then added. “Are you?”

“No. I’ve been waiting for this moment for a long time now.” He smiled at her. “You look beautiful by the way.”

“Thanks.” She blushed slightly. “But I have something really important, and I need you to hear me out… you uhh… better sit down.”

He nodded and cleared a folding chair off, perching lightly on it. The room was a mess; it had definitely been occupied by men.

“What is it, C?”

“I umm… I don’t know how to tell you this… but I think you should know now…” She began. “You umm… remember how we’ve spent the last couple of months… basically going at it like rabbits?”

He chuckled lightly. “Yeah, I remember.”

“Well… I’m… I’m pregnant.” She closed her eyes tightly, anticipating a negative response. And continued on quickly, “I wasn’t sure until this morning, and I still need to see a doctor to be absolutely positive, but I took a test Jen got me from a store and it came back positive, and I know you wanted to wait until after we were married, but I think I’m only about a month along, so we could still tell people I got pregnant on our wedding night and no one would suspect anything… I haven’t told anyone, well, except for Jen and Becky who got the test and smuggled it here…”
”You’re…. you’re going to have a baby?”

She nodded. “I think so…”

He leapt from the chair and hugged her tightly.  “Oh my god! This is fantastic news!” He gushed. “This is the happiest day of my life!!”
”Really?” She finally stopped holding her breath. “You aren’t mad.”

“Are you kidding?? Why would I be mad? This is great! We’re going to have a baby! I can’t wait to tell everyone!!” He beamed proudly. “This is awesome!”

“I know.” She smiled nervously. In all honesty, she was terrified, but she wanted to get the wedding over with first before they moved onto the next mile-stone. “I’m so happy. I’m going to have your baby!” She hugged him tightly. “But… maybe we should wait a week or two before we tell everyone else… I want to see a doctor first and be sure…” She whispered into his shoulder.

“Okay, okay. Of course.” He couldn’t hide a smile.

The door opened. “Son?” Mr. Hanson asked, entering the room, holding a video camera.

Christy and Isaac jumped apart. She blushed brightly, feeling incredibly naked all of a sudden.

“What’s going on? You two aren’t supposed to see each other yet!” He demanded, turning off the video camera.

“We weren’t doing anything, dad.” Isaac clarified. “Honest! We were just talking…”

Mr. Hanson sighed. “Don’t tell your mother.”
Isaac blushed also and restated, “We were just talking.”

Christy tugged at her robe, attempting to pull it down a little further to cover her. “I should get dressed.” She smiled meekly at Isaac and slipped from the room.

“Okay, son, almost show time.” Mr. Hanson said, switching on the camera again. “Any last words as an unmarried man?”

“Yeah… I’ve never been happier.” He smiled.
