Chapter one
hundred and ninety four:
“Becca?” Zac called. He was standing in front of
the full length mirror in the front room of the pool house.
Becky had been
occupying the only bathroom for nearly an hour, doing whatever it was she
needed to get ready for the rehearsal dinner.
Zac fidgeted
with his tie again.
When Becky
didn’t answer, he strode through the bedroom and knocked at the bathroom door.
It was opened slightly, but he didn’t want to barge in.
“It’s okay, you
can come in.” Becky replied, glancing at him through the mirror.
“Not that I want
to rush you, but we’re dangerously close to being late if we don’t leave in the
next…” He glanced at his watch, “Five minutes ago.”
Becky smiled,
closing her mascara and twisting it closed. “I’m ready.” She picked up her
clutch and stepped towards the door, but Zac remained in place with a silly
smile on his lips.
“What?” Becky
asked, feeling a slight blush in her cheeks.
“You look
pretty.”
Becky laughed. “Really?”
“You always look
pretty to me… I just think you look… extra pretty right now.”
Becky smiled and
stood on her toes, kissing his cheek.
She laughed. “Oh
no,” She tried to wipe the lipstick from his skin. “Here.”
She ran some
water over a Kleenex and dabbed his cheek. “Sorry.”
“Nah, it was
definitely worth it.” He grinned.
Becky smiled and
took the arm he offered her.

Jenna managed to
escape from the rehearsal dinner and snuck into a back hallway to catch her
breath.
Her feet were
killing her and the dress Christy had chosen for her suddenly felt about two
sizes too small. Jen had been dieting for weeks, but the dress seemed to be
getting tighter and tighter.
“Jen! There you are!” Christy appeared
suddenly and was standing next to her in just a few quick strides.
“What’s wrong?”
Christy asked, a flash of concern crossed her face.
“This dress, I
think it’s cutting off my air.”
“Honey,” Christy
placed a hand on her shoulder. “It’s just nerves. I’ve taken that dress in
three times and it’s still loose on you.” Christy illustrated her point by
pulling at a good two inches of extra fabric at Jen’s waist. “Just take a few minutes
to relax and I’ll make sure you get some hot tea brought to your table.”
“Thanks,” Jen
relaxed, her breathing considerably easier.
“I need you to
do something for me. It can be your first act for me as a bridesmaid.”
“I thought
trying on dresses was-“
“Alright,
alright.” Christy
held up her hands, “But it’s extremely important.”
Christy
whispered the task in Jen’s ear, and finished by saying. “It’s very important
that you don’t tell anyone. Especially Ike.”
“But Luke is
driving me to the wedding tomorrow, how am I supposed to-“
“Please, you
have to.” Christy tugged her arm. “Please?”
Jen sighed
heavily. “Okay, I’ll do it. But if Luke or anyone else catches me, I’m not
going to lie.”
“That’s fine. As long as Isaac doesn’t find out. Not yet anyway.”
Jen nodded.
“Okay, I’ll take care of it.”
