Chapter one hundred and sixty-nine:
Jenna had changed into a short black skirt, black leggings and a black wife-beater shirt.
This surprised Taylor. It was more skin that she had shown in weeks, but he tried to push his feelings for her aside. He wanted to take her out as a friend, and not anything more.

During the cab ride to the club, they were both silent. Jenna sat with her legs crossed, silently staring out the window.
Before they paid the driver and exited the cab, Taylor made her promise not to drink, and she reluctantly agreed.

She used her fake-ID to gain entry to the club, and Taylor deduced that it must have been a fairly good forgery. The bouncer recognized Taylor immediately, and ushered him in right behind her.

Once inside, they split up and Taylor went backstage to visit with the band before their set. Afterward, he wandered through the crowd to the bar, where he got himself a Corona and downed it quickly before Jen could catch him and call him a hypocrite.

He stood on the upper level peering down over the dance floor which had become a makeshift mosh pit. He leaned both arms on the railing and watched the bodies writhe and twist to the music. His friend’s band wasn’t that bad, they were pretty good. The music and the lyrics were both equally dark, but it was clearly well received by its audience.

Taylor!”

He half-turned to find Jenna approaching him from the crowd with a drink in her hands. “I’ve been looking all over for you.” She laughed.

“Hey, I was just standing up here to see if I could find you in the crowd. Are you having fun?”

“I’m having a blast!” She leaned back against the railing. “I was in the mosh pit, it was amazing.” Her skin was glazed with sweat. “You have to try it!”

“Alright, sure.” He shrugged, eying her drink.

Jen laughed. “Relax, it’s water.” She held up her drink, clinking the ice cubes against the glass. “Do you want to taste test it?”

He smiled. “I trust you. Come on, let’s try that mosh pit.”

“Great.” She set her drink down on the nearest table and led Taylor towards the stairs.

She turned around to wait for him at the bottom of the stairs, but when he walked past her a step; she grasped his arm tightly to follow him.

He led her to the middle of the mosh pit. “This okay?” He attempted to shout over the music.

“What?” She shouted back.

Nevermind!” He laughed.

She pulled his arms “Dance!” She instructed.

He laughed. “I suck at dancing!”

“Just jump!” She shouted, demonstrating by jumping up and down.

Taylor laughed. She looked positively insane. But he found her still cute.

On a complete whim, his arms circled her waist, and he kissed her lips.

Jen didn’t push him away, but instead allowed him to kiss her gently.
