Chapter one
hundred and sixty:
After a long
sound check, and several meet-and-greets, Zac escaped out the back of the
venue, looked around quickly for any fans lingering around back for autographs or
photos or anything, then ran to the bus.
Thankfully, he found it unlocked. He pulled open the door and scrambled up the
stairs loudly.
Jimmy was sitting in the front lounge reading the day’s newspaper. He looked up
when Zac came in.
“Hey! Jimmy!”
Zac slapped his hand. “What’s up?”
“Not much, the
girls are in the back, I thought I should give them some space.”
“Ahh, good plan.” Zac laughed, and walked through the hallway of bunks and
into the back lounge.
He pulled back the curtain suddenly and all three jumped in alarm.
“Hey girls!” he
chuckled, seeing them all cowering together under a spare blanket. “Scary movie?” He
asked, glancing up at the TV screen.
“It’s
terrifying!” Becky replied.
“No it isn’t. It’s
so predictable.” Jenna replied.
Something jumped
on the screen in a loud crashing noise and all three girls jumped again.
Zac laughed. “Anyway,
I just came out to tell you girls that we’re going to be ordering dinner in
about an hour, and I have to change my shirt before the show.”
“Can I come with
you?” Becky asked. “I don’t think I want to watch this movie!” She wriggled
free of the blankets and stood up, smoothing her hair down.
Zac smiled. “Sure.”
He rooted
through his drawer under the bunks and found a clean shirt. He buried his nose
in the fabric to be sure it was clean.
Becky laughed, “Ew, Zac, that’s gross!”
“Hey, it’s
clean!” He pointed out. He pulled the shirt he had on over his head and tossed
it at Becky.
“Gross!” She
laughed, peeling the shirt off her shoulder and dropping it back into his
drawer.
“Aww, just more of me to love.” He teased, jerking on a clean shirt.
“That is
something you would never catch a girl doing, smelling her clothes before she
puts it on.”
“
“Oh
yuck!”
Zac laughed. “Come
on, lets get back inside the venue before the fans
figure out I’m back here.”
“Okay.” Becky
laughed. She followed him from the bus and in through the back door, removing
her security pass to show the bouncers, even though it wasn’t necessary.
She followed Zac
down a narrow hall towards, the backstage area and VIP room. When they turned a
corner and Becky was sure they were out of earshot from everyone else, she
stopped.
“Zac?”
He turned around
and when he realized she wasn’t walking anymore, he stopped too. “What is it,
babe?”
“Can we talk?”
“Sure,” He
walked towards her and took her hand in his. “What is it?”
“You can’t tell
anyone I told you this, especially not Jen and Christy.”
“Okay, sure.”
She pulled him
off to the side, in case anyone came through the hallway. She didn’t want to be
interrupted.
“Zac, Christy
got an email.”
“From
those people? The people that have been threatening you?” He demanded. “When? Why didn’t you tell me sooner?!”
“Zac, please
calm down. I just found out today. It just happened yesterday, and I told you
as soon as I could.”
He sighed. “You’re
right. You did the best you could.”
“Don’t tell them
I told you! I don’t want them to be mad at me for telling you!”
“I won’t.” He
smiled. “Come here.” He enveloped her in a firm hug. “I’m very glad you told
me.
She nodded. “What’s
going to happen now?”
“I don’t know.”
He released her slowly. “I’ve got to tell my brothers.”
”I figured so.”
“Do you still
want to come with me?”
She nodded. “Anything. There’s far too much blood in the movie Christy
and Jen are watching.”
Zac chuckled.
