Chapter one
hundred and fifty- one:
Isaac found Christy standing by the terminal windows, overlooking part of the
city. The sun had yet to rise, and the darkness on the other side of the window
was broken only by tiny dots of street lights and miscellaneous house lights.
He smiled at her
cute pajama pants with little pink hearts on them. All three girls had worn
their pajamas, insisting they would sleep on the plane.
He approached
behind her and gently slipped his arms around her waist. “Hey,
C.” He spoke softly, resting his chin on her shoulder. “You okay?”
“Yeah.” He saw her smile reflected in the glass.
“The wedding stuff is done.”
“I know. Are you
excited?”
“I’m impartial.
I’m happy its all done with, but I kind of miss it…
you only get married once, right?”
“Right.” He smiled. “But the work part is over,
right? All that’s left is the fun stuff. The big party, the ceremony….”
“The
honey moon?” She
finished with a grin.
“Oh, right. I
forgot about that.” He teased.
She laughed. “I thought you were going to Starbucks.”
“They aren’t
open. Sorry… we can get coffee on the plane.” He smiled, taking her hand as she
turned around to walk with him.
“Okay, you can
drink that sludge. I’ll stick with water.”
“I’m fine with
that. If it has caffeine in it, it serves its purpose.” He grinned.
“You know, I
think I actually like flying this early in the morning. There are less people
and its less of a rush to go from the front doors to
the gate.”
“That’s true…
and I guess we can sleep on the plane.” He shrugged.
“I can never
sleep on planes.” She adjusted her carry-on over her shoulder.
“I bet you’ll
sleep this time.” He brought her hand to his lips and gently brushed his lips
across the back of her hand.
“I’ll take that
bet.” She grinned. “How much?”
Isaac laughed.
“Well, I won’t put money on it, but I’ll sing for you and you’ll be out like a
light.”
Christy let go
of his hand and walked ahead of him. “That’s cheating.”
He caught up
with her quickly and wrapped his arms around her waist, picking her up off her
feet. She shrieked and dropped her bag on the floor.
“Dammit, will you two get a room?”
“Yeah,
Ike. If she’s trying
to get away from you, I think that’s a sigh.” Zac teased, punching his brother
in the arm.
Isaac released
Christy, and with a grin, she fixed her shirt to cover her stomach.
“Come on, we’re
going to miss the plane!” Becky urged.
Isaac shrugged
helplessly and scooped up Christy’s bag, taking her hand again.
Christy giggled
and stood up on her toes to kiss his lips.

He glanced over
at Jen who was sitting next to him with a book open on her lap. Like Christy
and Becky, Jen had also worn her pajamas, but they appeared at least two sizes
too big for her. She was sitting with her legs folded cross legged on the
chair, staring intently at her book.
“What are you
reading?” He asked, stealing a glance over her shoulder.
“Just a book of
poetry I picked up.”
“Yeah? Anything good in
there?”
“Umm… a few
poems I really like, some of them are a little long and tedious.” She looked up
at
“Oh…”
“I’d really
prefer not to…” She muttered.
“I know you
don’t want to, but listen, I have to tell my brothers about this. I think it
will be best if-“
“No,
“Jen, listen,”
He began in a more even tone. “I know you don’t like it, but its
for your own good. You’ll have the body guard, the same as before, and since
this was only a minor occurrence, I’d imagine that not a whole lot would
change…”
Jenna sighed. “I
Thought I could trust you…”
“You can!” He
interrupted.
“No, I can’t.”
“This is for
your own good though.”
“I don’t want
what’s for my own good, I want what’s right. And that’s not being held
prisoner.”
“Alright, but-“
“I don’t want to
talk anymore.” Jen pushed herself up from her seat and stormed down the aisle
towards the bathroom.
