Chapter one
hundred and fifty:
Jenna was
standing in front of the closet in the spare room at the Hanson’s house. Becky
had removed all of her clothes and put them in her suitcase which was now
sitting by the door. Jenna stood looking at her own clothes with her hands on
her hips. She didn’t even know where to begin.
She glanced at
her suitcase, which was laying open on her bed, then back to her clothes.
“Jen?” Becky appeared beside her. “Want some
help?”
“Yes… err… I
mean, no. I’m alright, really.” Jenna shook her head. She wondered if her brain
was staging a coup and creating a mutiny inside her head.
Becky pushed her
suitcase over a bit and sat down on the edge of Jen’s bed. “Everything
okay?”
“Yeah,
just packing.” Jenna
forced a smile and stood, still staring at her clothes.
Becky raised her
eyebrows and looked at the empty suitcase. “You don’t seem to be trying very
hard…”
Jenna quickly
removed a pair of jeans from a hanger and tossed them into her suitcase.
“How was your
day?
Jenna sighed and
turned around. She walked quickly to the door and shut it. “It was fine… It was…
great. I don’t know. I actually had a really good time… I mean, he was really
sweet and…. Non-Taylor-ish, you know? He did
everything I wanted to do, and was… charming…”
“Really?” Becky made a face, wrinkling her nose. “What’s
that like?”
Jenna sighed
heavily and sat down on Becky’s bed. “I think I’m going crazy. I mean, I was
with
Becky’s jaw
dropped. “What!?” She cried.
“Hell, don’t
make that face!” Jenna groaned. “It feels weird! I like Luke. Maybe its just because things aren’t going well between me and
Luke and I miss him and I just transferred those thoughts onto
“What are you
going to do?” Becky asked, sitting forward.
“I don’t know…
can I crawl into a hole and die?” Jenna lay back on the bed, covering her face
with her hands.
“You’ve got to
decide!”
“Luke! It’s
always been Luke!” Jenna protested, sitting up.
“Yeah, but you
said the other day you felt like he was pushing you away…”
“I know… I just
don’t know what to do right now… this sucks.”

Zac pushed his
dirt bike into the garage and pulled the tarp over it. It had been covered in
mud when he brought it back into the yard, so he had taken the time to hose it
down before the mud dried.
He just needed
to hose himself down, he was filthy. And he assumed he stunk too, as he was
insanely hot inside the jumpsuit.
The garage door
opened and
“Yup. What’s up?” Zac nodded, tucking the tarp
under the machine.
”Nothing… just… hanging out.”
Zac laughed. “Right. You don’t have any hot chicks to go out with?”
“Are you kidding?
We have a five am flight tomorrow. I just barely finished packing.”
”Great, so that means you’ll have more luggage than the rest of us combined?”
Zac crouched down over a small snack fridge and removed two ice cold bottles of
dr. Pepper. He handed one to his brother. “You know, its pretty sad when you have more luggage than Christy.”
“And Ike wasn’t
available?”
“He’s not
answering his phone.”
“Right.” Zac found an old drum stool and wheeled
it over by his bike. “I don’t think I’ll be able to help.”
“You can. You’re
in a healthy committed relationship with someone you care a lot about.”
”True.” Zac nodded, popping the tab on the soda can.
“See, I have
this friend, who’s got a huge crush on someone.”
“Really? Who do you have a crush on?” Zac raised
his eyebrows.
“Okay,
hypothetically, who do you have a crush on?” Zac taunted.
“A friend, okay?”
“A
friend? Guy or girl?”
“No! No! I’ll
stop, I swear.” Zac grinned.
“Felt something
other than your crush on her?” Zac questioned.
“I felt… like…
like she kind of had feelings for me too. You know? A
feeling.”
“And it wasn’t a
hard on?”
“No,
