Chapter one hundred and forty:
Zac looked up after frantically hammering out a new drum beat to
see Becky quietly standing by the door with a pair of earphones over her head.
He chuckled, and she removed them. “Am I that bad?”
“No, you’re just… loud.” She smiled. “Sorry. I was trying not to
interrupt, I was just curious to see what you were doing. Are you busy?”
“No, that’s okay.” He got up from the stool and crossed the room.
He grabbed a towel off one of the amplifiers and dried the sweat off his face.
He leaned over and kissed her cheek trying to keep a distance
between their bodies, knowing he was caked in sweat.
Becky laughed. “Ew, Zac. You’re sweaty
and gross!”
He chuckled. “Yeah, well, I’ve been working hard, you know.”
“I see that. Do you feel like you’ve practiced enough?”
“Umm… yeah, I think the arm muscles have loosened up a bit.” He
grinned. “My guns are locked and loaded!” He flexed proudly.
Becky laughed.
“Come on, lets get out of here. I’m sick
of looking at the studio.”
Becky smiled at that. “Really? You get
sick of your job?”
“Sometimes… sometimes I’d rather just hang out with you.”
“Yeah? Well, I have to admit that
sometimes I’d rather you hang out with me too.”
He laughed. “Alright, well, what can we do this afternoon to have
some fun?”
“Well, Christy, Jen and I were going to see a movie tonight,
hopefully.”
“Hopefully?”
“Well, we had hoped to go, but I don’t think we’ll be able to go
by ourselves.”
“Yeah, that’s true. There’s no bodyguard.” He led her into a small
kitchen, and pulled out two cans of diet dr. pepper. He popped the tab on one
and passed it to her before opening the second and taking a drink. “Maybe I can
go, and we can bring Luke and Isaac, and it could be like a… triple date.”
“I guess you haven’t been talking to Luke then.” Becky leaned
against the counter.
“No, why?”
“She and Luke had a fight and they stopped talking. She’s pretty
pissed at him.”
“Oh man. Luke is probably crushed… Do you know why?”
Becky shook her head. “Not entirely.”
Christy walked into the kitchen. “Becky? Can I talk to you for a
second?”
“Sure.” Becky said, slightly confused, but she followed her into
the hall anyway.
“Come on, we’re going out.”
“Isaac said we could go out?” Becky asked in disbelief.
“No, but we’re doing it anyway.”
“What?” Becky asked in surprise.
“We’re just going to go. He can yell at me later.”
“Is this a good idea?”
“Probably not. But right now I don’t care. He’s
showing absolutely no trust in me right now, and I’m pissed off.”
“But-“
Christy grabbed her hand, “Come on, we’ve got to get Jen.”
