Chapter one
hundred and twenty three:
Becky sat across
from Zac at the kitchen table as he busy worked his way through a stack of
pancakes.
Becky giggled.
“You don’t have to eat all of those just to make me happy, you know.”
“I know. But I’m
hungry. And you made them so they’re extra special.”
Becky smiled.
“You’re so sweet.”
He shrugged.
“That’s all this maple sugar.”
She laughed.
“What are we going to do today?”
“Anything you
want to do, babe.”
“Hmm… Anything? We can spend hours at the mall looking at shoes?
Then I can give you a pedicure?”
Zac chuckled. “Maybe not anything...”
”Yeah?” She slid into his lap. “Not even if I did this?” She pressed her
lips to his and kissed him slowly, giving him plenty of time to respond to her
kisses, and raking her fingers through his shaggy hair.
She finally broke the kiss, leaving him in a state of shock and arousal.
“Umm…
maybe if you kiss me again?” He tested, clearing his throat awkwardly.
She giggled. “I won’t give you a pedicure, Zaccy. Let’s just hang around the
house for a bit today, hmm? I mean, Christy is coming home today and I’d like
to be here to help. Besides that, we’ve got to pack for the plane leaving next
week for
”Okay, I’m fine with that.” He cleared his throat again.
Becky smiled. “You’re
cute.” She kissed his cheek and got up from his lap.
Zac reluctantly
let her go. “What about tonight? Maybe we can go out…”
Becky poured a
glass of orange juice from the carton in the fridge and crossed the room to sit
it next to his plate. “Okay, maybe… but I’m really just worried about Christy
getting home okay.”
“Sure, whatever
you feel like doing.” His arms circled her hips.
Becky smiled
down at him. “Want me to kiss you again?”
”Yeah, you could do that.” He grinned back.
She giggled and
bent to kiss him.
“Hey, kids,
where’s-“ Jim walked into the kitchen. “Whoops. Am I
interrupting?”
“No.” Becky said
quickly with pink cheeks.
“Yes.” Zac
grumbled.
Becky swatted
him playfully.

Christy was
sitting up in the hospital bed, propped up on two pillows.
Isaac was
sitting next to her on the hospital bed, holding a cup of juice in one hand and
the straw to her lips with the other.
He lowered the
drink and tossed the cup into the trash can.
“Are you okay?” He asked, folding the blankets around her more.
“I’m fine.” She
offered a weak smile. “You don’t have to babysit me.”
“I know I don’t
have to, I want to, okay?” He smiled and gently brushed his knuckles across her
cheek.
“Baby…”
“I love you.” He
whispered, leaning forward and softly kissing her lips.
She kissed his
cheek as he moved closer and gently left a tender trail of kisses down her
throat.
Christy’s eyes
drifted closed.
They were
interrupted by a loud knock at the door.
Isaac stood and
answered “Come in!”
The door opened
and Jen and Taylor came into the room, Taylor carrying a tray of coffees.
“Hey, how are
you feeling today?” Jenna hugged Christy.
“Better.”
Christy replied, shyly smiling at Isaac. “I can’t wait to go home.”
“Alright, I
bought you some clothes, several different outfits so you can pick.”
“Great.”
“And I checked
with the nurse and she said you can have coffee.” Jenna took the coffee
“Thank God.”
