Chapter one hundred and nineteen:

Isaac was sitting on the edge of Christy’s hospital bed.

The nurses had medicated her, the doctors had pumped her stomach, and the nurses had given her more medication to help her sober and recover from the tube down her throat, which had long since been removed.

Her face was slowly beginning to regain its color, although she still looked much more pale than usual.

He breathed heavily and watched her in silence, relieved that she was finally okay, and that she was finally breathing normally. However he couldn’t help but feel responsible for driving her to drink in the first place.

Seeing Christy passed out and barely breathing was like his worst nightmare come true. The woman he loved could very-well have died simply because he was paying far too much attention to his work, than to their wedding.

The doctors had told that what she had done had been very serious, but they were unable to tell if she had done so intentionally or unintentionally.

He leaned forward carefully and gingerly stroked the side of her face with his knuckles, gently pushing her long dark hair back from her face.

She groaned weakly, with her eyes still closed.

“Christy? Honey? Can you hear me?”

She made another dry groaning sound.

“Here, baby. Drink some water okay?”  He held a small plastic cup to her mouth, and she took a small sip and swallowed painfully.

“I feel like hell.” She said dryly, and finally opened her eyes.

“Honey, do you know what happened?”

She opened her eyes slowly. “I drank too much, and I passed out.”

“Kind of.” He drew in a deep breath. “You’re in a hospital. You had alcohol poisoning…”

“What?” She made a hollow attempt to sit upright, but found herself weak and barely moved. She groaned out loud and closed her eyes.

“Honey, stay still. You’re okay, you just… you need to stay here for a day or so and get better…”

“No, I’m fine. I can go home.” She said quickly, and tried to sit up again. “Just help me sit-“

“No, Christy. You’re staying in bed.”

“What? Now you’re just going to order me around?” She demanded.

“You’re god damned right I am. Just because I have to work late one night you feel the need to go and do something so stupid as to drink yourself sick!”

“Oh please, like you only work late every so often, Ike! You barely spend any time with me! All I ask is for you to spend one night of your oh-so-precious time planning our wedding and you can’t even pencil me in for that!”

“I have been fucking doting on you since we started this relationship, excuse me if I spend some time trying to further my career and make sure we’re somewhat financially secure for our future, okay? Excuse me for trying to follow my dream.”

“Yeah? And where do I fit in all of that, huh? Obviously there are no plans for me in that future.”

Isaac sighed and continued in a quieter tone. “No, that’s not true. I love you, you know that.”

“I think you should go.”

“What? Christy, come on-“

“Leave.” She closed her eyes tightly.

Isaac groaned in defeat and left the hospital room.
