Chapter one hundred and fourteen:
Zac had left his two older brothers alone in the studio and had gone home early
to shower. The entire cab ride to the house, he went over and over what he was going
to say in his mind.
He showered and dressed in a simple black suit he had borrowed
from Isaac and stood at the bottom of the stairs, waiting for Becky to be
ready.
He glanced at his watch and groaned internally. He missed her
already, even though he hadn’t seen her since earlier that morning.
He stuffed his hands deep into the pockets of his dress pants and
forced himself to deny the nervous feeling in his stomach.
Becky appeared at the top of the stairs, and descended slowly.
Zac felt his jaw drop. “You look… amazing.” He breathed.
“Really?” She smiled widely. “I wasn’t sure
what to wear…”
“You look great.” He grinned.
She had chosen a simple black spaghetti strap dress, a pink
cardigan and pearls.
She stopped at the bottom of the stairs and did a small mini-turn.
“You’re sure?”
“Yeah, I think you look fantastic.” He grinned.
“Are we ready to go?” She asked.
“Yeah, um… sure.” He opened the door and she
took his hand, following him outside.
“Do you mind if I ask why we’re doing this? You don’t have any
really bad news to tell me, do you?” Becky asked.
“No, of course not… I just thought it would be nice to kind of go
out, just the two of us, on a proper date…”
“But Zac, you know you don’t have to do this, right? I mean, you don’t
have to spend money for fancy dinners and big dates…”
“I know, I don’t have to, but I want to.” He smiled and gently
kissed her cheek.

Christy was sitting at the kitchen table, eagerly waiting for Isaac to return
home so she could spend the evening with him. She knew he was working hard, but
she wanted to spend time with him, and if he felt like it, perhaps begin going
over the details of their wedding with the new information his mother had
emailed her.
She sighed heavily and turned the page in her newest issue of
Cosmo.
The phone next to her rang, and she jumped to get to the phone
before anyone else did.
“Hello?”
“Christy?”
She smiled broadly, recognizing the voice instantly as Isaac’s. “Hi
honey, how are you?!”
“I’m alright, but we need to talk for a second, okay?”
“Of course, baby. What’s on your mind?” She leaned against the
kitchen wall, pressing the phone to her ear.
“Well, you know how I said earlier that I’d come home as soon as I
could and we’d spend the evening together?”
She closed her eyes tightly, knowing what he was going to say. “Yeah…”
“Well, Tay and I are working on this
melody to go with a drum beat Zac laid down earlier, and I really think we
should stay here and finish this thought process before we loose it, like last
week…”
“So you’re not coming home tonight, then.” She said, forcing her
voice to remain even. She didn’t want him to know how angry she was. “Even
though you said you would be.”
“Yeah…”
“Even though you promised you would be.”
“Yeah… listen, I know you’re mad, honey, but we’ve still got all
kinds of time to do this. There’s all next week and-“
“No, you know what, if work is more important than fine, you just
stay there.” She slammed the phone down on the receiver and stormed upstairs.
