Audition Diary
January 2004
Only a few weeks to go and I am so nervous! The rest of my life will literally be decided over the next few weeks, Im finding it hard to sleep and concentrate in school, after all I do have my Leaving Cert coming up. But Ive got to be positive and focused I guess. Ive started working on my songs with my singing teacher and I have my monologues learned and practiced to bits. Things are looking good but Ive never been so nervous, Im constantly thinking about that first audition, and to be honest Im doubting myself a bit. At drama, Gillian has announced that she has organised for us to do a workshop with the teachers from the Urdang Academy here in Dublin. Its the weekend before I go for my first audition in London, and we can audition for their course while at the workshop if we want!! Why not!! Its perfect timing, and a perfect chance to get some audition experience right before I go. I only need 1 song and 1 monologue, so Ill probably do Empty Chairs and Robert Emmet.
Sunday January 25th -Urdang Workshop
Wasnt really nervous going in on the bus. I saw the day as being a chance to gain experience rather then an audition. I turned up at 10am. I met the other guys from ITW. The Workshop Director gave an introduction. She asked who was auditioning, it turned out that it was just myself and some girl Id never met. The workshop began. Ballet first, what...ballet!!Me??Yup. Well I did the class and I was happy enough that I handled everything well. I noticed that the director lady was watching me with a camera. Nerve wracking! But still, Im not too pushed, Roll on Jazz! I went into the Jazz very confident but the routine went terrible. We had an amazing instructor but I was just awful, I couldnt keep up. I started to feel annoyed with myself. The woman was standing in front of me and I was making a fool out of myself.

During lunch, I regained my thoughts. Started to think positive. I have to say that all the other guys were really supportive. We went into the next class, Musical Theatre, and we learned a song from Chorus Line, I hate that show!! The routine went ok then I guess but I didnt really have much energy left and I didnt put in as much effort. The workshop ended and everyone went home except the girl and I. We had to stay to do our audition pieces and our interview.
