Audition Diary
October 2003
I sent away to those Colleges, The Urdang Academy, Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts, The Arts Educational Schools and London Studio Centre, for application and audition forms. In my speech & drama class I found a modern Monologue in Translations by Brain Friel. I was finding it hard to get a Classical one that suits me, started looking in Libraries.
November 2003
I received my application forms and decided to apply for all four of the above colleges as recommended by my cousin. Filling out application forms is so much work. For each one I had to fill in questionnaires, write essays, give health information, supply full body and shoulder photographs, give information on my parents financial situation, describe aims and ambitions, write about all of my experience, supply two references as well as a doctors letter and the 50 audition fee!! It is a lot of work. I asked Gillian and my school principle to write me references. They both put a lot of work in and made me sound great! I subsequently decided not to apply for the Urdang course as it was just too Dance orientated so I thought it not for me. I still havent found a classical monologue. Ive set December as my deadline to have the applications done because although I have until March, my cousin says it is best to have them in as early as possible.
December 2003
Finally finished the application forms and sent them off in the post on the Dec 1st. Bull Alley is the name of the drama course in the Liberties college (Dublin) and my friend who is in third year there was performing in a production of Robert Emmet with them. This is a Classical play by Dion Boucicoult so I went along to see if there were any good Monologues I could use. I heard a really great speech and decided that I had to have it as it was perfect for me, so I called my friend and got him to send me a copy of the script. I brought the piece to my speech & drama class at ITW and my teacher Orla agreed that it was great for me. So we began work on that. Sorted!! Now I had to pick songs. Since Les Miserables is my favourite show, I sang Empty Chairs at Empty Tables and for my second song I decided on Kansas City from Oklahoma since Id played that part twice before.

My applications were accepted and I received my audition dates for all of the Colleges, the first being at the end of January, so my mam booked the flights straight away.
