So, guys... how's the record coming?
Reed's Photographic Diary
Reed Indeed CD Done!
Ok, so that last entry (mostly just the part about no longer negelcting the website and our fans) was a load of crap. That whole deal about the cd being finished, on the contrary, was not a load of crap. It is awesome and you can buy it for ten dollars. There are a few things going on right now. We have a couple of shows coming up - April 12th at The Music Hall with a screamo band whose name has robots therein, and at Jose's on May 19th probably with Pancho and Sabrina. At our last show we played a brand new song, which we're calling "Get With The Pogrom" for now (and perhaps always). A few weeks ago, we started recording it for the FHS Music Club's annual effort and it sounds excellent. Speaking of new material, we're still working on three other songs, all of which are of quite distinct styles. In terms of progress, they are all at about the same place - chords and melodies are pretty well established, but the order of parts and lyrics have yet to find permanence. The last little bit of news is that we have a new website, reedindeed.net, but our webmaster - who for security purposes we choose not to name - seems to have forgotten about it. Wasn't that enlightening? -Martin, 3.27.06 HOLY HELL! THE CD IS DONE! For too long we have neglected this website and our fans in general, BUT NO LONGER. We have finished our first full-length CD, Sow Your Antsy Oats, and will be allowing to you buy it from us. THE BUYING WILL OCCUR AFTER JANUARY 7TH, at which time we will be playing a CD Release party at Teatro Scarpino (Fayetteville) at 9 PM. We will be opened-for buy our buddies Pancho & Sabrina, the Me and Eryn Brothers Conglomeration. It'll be a great time for all in attendance. And ALL should be in attendence. Again: Reed Indeed CD Release Teatro Scarpino January 7th, 9 PM $5 CDs, $10 shirts Featuring Pancho & Sabrina Good time It's been three months since we've updated, but we have at least three months worth of progress to show off. We're done with all the recording on the new cd, and all we have left is mixing, which should be done next week if not today. We're still working out the details for album art, track order, release party, all that stuff. But we're almost there, so be patient; we shall all be rewarded for it soon. -Martin (10-8-05) Pictures of us making our first full-length record are up (*See above). Thank you to those who came to our Gypsy show, whether you were allowed to get in or not. -Reed (7-20-05) We have officially started making our first full length record. Check the journal for updates. -Martin 6-22-05 Here's what's up in the next couple of months: Fellow local indie rockers Kings of New England have asked us to play at their cd release party in late July or early August. Since that's precisely when we plan to finish our disc, it may end up being a joint cd release party. On a similar note, we have pretty much decided that we will record everything, save the songs whose futures are uncertain (e.g. The Demise). Recording should start ASAP or when Brian returns from New York this week. Who's excited? Speaking of excited, Patrick has written a song that kicks an ass and a half and everyone should be able to hear it when the album is done. See the journal for future recording updates. -Martin Summer is starting. Shows will be sporadic, and we've got nothing planned. You can, however, start preparing yourself to have your ass rocked off by the first full-length Reed Indeed CD. We're still in the planning stages, but we'll most definitely be recording this summer. We'll keep you posted to the max, so check back frequently and with great enthusiasm. -Reed (5-30-05) Battle of the bands is tonight in the FHS senior lot (across from the school on Stone street.). Show starts at 4:00, we're scheduled to play at 9:00...p.m. The show went well and Sydney joined us on cello for Kids Named Urban. Thanks for those of you who came - we were delighted. News from the underground: May 14th is the annual FHS Battle of the Bands. This year's prize is a live set on POWER 105.7, your number one source for hit music (read with an extra "s" for humor). We think we have a reasonable chance to win, but we are expecting some fierce competition as at least one of these bands has a really awesome defense. We should be able to come out victorious as long as we stick to our highly versatile and efficient offense. We should have the 7:00 slot and our set will last for approximately twenty minutes. Lastly, there has been talk of recording a full length LP with Brian (Cooler Than Your Mom Records) and this Summer is looking irresistable. Peace. -Martin, 5.4.05 We're starting to play shows again, the first of which will be played this Saturday at The Third Rail, an offshoot of the Hub. For those of you that attended our Hub show (one of our best, in my opinion, and also one of our least-attended) the Third Rail is the room that people were smoking in last time, but has now been turned into a jazz club. We'll have a stage and a PA that'll play a violin and all sorts of fancy stuff like that. This will be the last Music Club Show of the year; tentative details are written in caps as follows: THE THIRD RAIL (OFF POPLAR STREET, A PART OF 5 SQUIRRELS) 7-? $5 AT THE DOOR FEATURING: LACKYRMA APARTMENT 5 REED INDEED PROBABLY SOMEONE ELSE More solid details will be available tomorrow. In the meantime, clear your schedules. -Reed (4-25-05) Kids Named Urban is finally finished, and it sounds great. Pick up a copy when it's available. It might not make you dance, but it could make you sway a little. -merey Yo! We have a show at The Hub (on Poplar st. in Fayetteville near Bottoms Up) on Friday, April 1 starting at 7:00. The next night (Saturday, April 2...just in case) we're opening for Very Special Guest at The Music Hall. Doors open at 7:45, cover is $8. I hear VSG is danceable and popular so it should be some fun. Also we should be finishing up Kids Named Urban this week. Come enjoy good music! -Martin (3.28.05) Patrick, Reed, and I played at St. Paul's Episcopal church for a Unitarian Universalist Fellowship banquet/benefit. Why it was at St. Paul's and why old people think they can't hear each other when you can, I don't know. I do know that we played several (2) awesome versions of Kids Named Urban with piano. Anywho, I thought it would be a good idea to remind everyone that we have a show at the Music Hall with The Helpful Carrot tonight. Yeah, it's too expensive, but at least your money is going to us (and Jeremy, of course). And remember that Saturday the 19th at Arsaga's on Crossover we're playing for free! Come and make sure that we...are enjoyed? I actually meant to say paid. Yeah, that's right, capitalism rocks. And so do guns! And red meat, too! But Bush can still such a cock like nobody's business. -Martin (3.13.05) We recorded the majority of "Kids Named Urban" with Brian St. Clair yesterday and it's sounding pretty good check out our recording log at "/log." I'm tu stoopid to insert a link in a text box, so you can do it yourselves. All of the shows for March are still on, including Arsaga's (see Dates for our schedule). We're finally sending off the demo to record labels. All we ask is that you keep us in your thoughts and prayers OR cross your fingers. -Martin (2.27.05) Reed recently found out that "Semannetics" will be featured in a BMX video in Indiana. Isn't daht crezy? We've been really busy. Hopefully this will continue for a while. There are a fews shows in March (listed below) and we're working on some dates for April, hopefully out of town, since we're drawing closer to exhausting our Fayetteville venues. Anyone check out those Arsaga's pictures? Damn! They's some fly! Come to the show tonight at The Orpheum (now @ 9:00, Onset of Winter is still at 7:00). Anywho, there's important stuff below, so read it. -Martin LOOK BELOW FOR IMPORTANT REED INDEED SHOW TIMES AND INFORMATION AND STUFF! I'M NOT EVEN JOKING! The Arsaga's turnout was great, and I can't thank all of you enough for coming. I can thank you enough for buying our shirts, as you did that less that satisfactorily. Because that is a word. Reed Indeed tye-dies will be available, as far as I can tell, at all of our upcoming shows in March for $10. If we've got time we'll make some flat color ones too for a little bit cheaper, but these are sure to be considerably less cool. Speaking of March, here are the new and/or important Reed Indeed dates: February 19: The Orpheum. This is a big CD release show for the Music Club at FHS. Also playing are Different Times Tyler, Lackyrma, Onset of Winter (yeah, really), The Best Defense, and After the Tragedy. I think we go on at 8:00, but you should expand your horizons and show up earlier than that. I'll try to post a definite time on here if I remember. It costs $5 at the door and you get a few dollars off the price of the CD if you go to the show. Even better, the CD features a version of "My Apologies" that is mixed slightly differently than on our CD. How's that for some special edition shit? March 11: St. Paul's Episcopal Church. I'm not sure if this is open to the public or not, but if you're a Unitarian Universalist or a supporter of Unitarian Universalism in Fayetteville, you should ask around to see if you can get into the stewardship dinner thing, where we will be playing. March 13: The Music Hall. We're headlining, it's at 8:00, and it's a Sunday. Joining us will fellow badasses The Helpful Carrot and Sunday Sailor. March 19: Arsaga's Crossover. All you awesome people got us a weekend gig, and we will use it to the best of our abilities. Even though this show is pretty free, you should really consider checking out our Music Hall gig also. Really, that place needs some help. -Reed (2-15-05) DON'T FORGET ABOUT OUR SHOW AT ARSAGA'S!!! 8 PM TO 10 PM ON THURSDAY!!! THAT'S FEBRUARY 10TH!!! IT'S FUCKING FREE!!! I just can't stress that enough. Also: REED INDEED TYE-DYED T-SHIRTS!!! $10!!! FAIRLY SMALL AMOUNT AVAILABLE!!! Now here's my question for you: How is it that between 9 and 10 PM on February 7th, we got 210 hits? We've been getting several 100 a day on some days, but not as many people actually going in to the site. (Sign the guestbook if you know... this is killing me.) -Reed (2-8-04) (Happy Birthday Angus) Wow. I never expected our Music Hall show to be as awesome as it was. Because it was awesome. Thank you so much friends of the sister of Elise. The Patrick George Era has officially begun. For awhile we had been viewing our Music Hall performance as a practice show, but Patrick rocked the hell out of that building and I am as happy as a clam. A happy clam, in fact. And thanks a lot Auburn. I'll loan you my bass any day. Even though that show rocked major socks, everyone should be anticipating the awesomeness of our free show at Arsaga's Crossover on Thursday, February 10th. Shirts will be available for the jackasses that have a stolen copy of our CD. I know who you are. Really. -Reed (Finally) (2-4-05) Wooooooo. Lots of shows coming up! * The closest one, as you can see, is this Friday at the Music Hall. We haven't done much to encourage you to come because it's so expensive and we're not getting paid anything. But hell, it's our first show with Patrick on drums. Do you REALLY want to miss that? * Next is the BIG one. We're playing a two hour set (supposedly) of mostly originals at Arsaga's on Crossover. Two hours of Reed Indeed...for free! If a lot of people show up we'll get a weekend show (which means dollas). * Not last nor least is the Orpheum on the 19th. If you're going to come to any show, this is it. We're playing with Onset of Winter for fuck's sake! Have you heard these guys? They're incredible! * gig at St. Paul's is self explanitory. * We're setting up a show at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Fayetteville to raise money for the church and put an end to awkward segueways in to financial antecdotes. We're poor, okay? Even liberal religion needs dat paper. -Martin (1.31.05) Up to date dates: * February 4th @ The Music Hall 8:00 p.m. * February 10th @ Arsaga's on Crossover 8:00 p.m. * February 19th @ The Orpheum 7:00 p.m. -Martin (1.27.05) We are now playing at the Music Hall on February 4th with Very Special Guest. Arsaga's on Crossover show is still on February 10th at 8:00 p.m. No word on the Music Club cd Release show. I wish I were in D.C. with a sign in my hand that reads "What the hell, America?!" -Martin (1.20.05) I've discovered that if you add one and subtract one, you're left with nothing. So when I tell you that the January 23 show at The Music Hall is cancelled, but that we'll be playing at Arsaga's on Crossover on February 10, you should have no response at all. Because somehow, nothing changed. So anyway, show up; we'll have a drummer. -Martin (1.16.05) Yesterday was our first practice with our new drummer, Patrick. We were very impressed, to say the least. As of now, the two shows we scheduled (January 23 @ The Music Hall, Feburary 5 @ FHS auditorium) are sort of still on, so we're expecting all of you to at least sort of show up if not completely. In other news, this is entry number one million on the Reed Indeed news box thing! Free hugs for everyone! -Reed...I mean, Martin (do you feel bad for laughing now?) (1-9-05) The Music Hall show went poorly, but some new people saw us, which is comforting. If you missed it, it's really okay; we didn't play well and I wasn't very funny. We were invited back, but show details are still in the dark. If you're in the market to but some vinyls or obscure CDs or something you should check out Spun Records on Township (just east of Gregg Street Arsaga's and next to some tattoo place). It's a really cool store run by some nice people. Plus you might hear some Reed Indeed playing in there. -Reed (1-3-05) In an effort to trick you, we've signed up for two more shows: A January 1st Big Show with 5 or 6 other bands at the Music Hall and the Music Club CD Release show tentatively scheduled for the first Saturday in February. We've got high hopes for The Music Hall, as sometimes people go there without feeling obligated to see their friends' bands. I'm in the process of putting up some pictures from our Blank Generation show, which you all missed because, for some reason, you didn't drive down to Little Rock to see us. -Reed (12-15-9004) I think that's it for shows, guys! We had a nice little stretch there; it was a lot of fun. We're going to settle down now and work some more on new material and finding that drummer that we've always dreamed of. For those of you who weren't there or weren't paying attention, Ben Clark accompanied us on violin last Saturday and we were fairly pleased with the results. We're looking at adding him to our roster for some violin and guitar playing. It's exciting. You can still check back here for updates of various natures, especially in our Lyrics section, which is updated surprisingly often. Remember, you can always buy our CD from the link to the right ($5.25 including shipping and handling) or in person ($4). Now they're made with even more love! -Reed (12-7-04) We are, in fact, playing a show this Saturday. (Sorry for getting back to you so late.) Cover is $6 at the door and 4 other bands are playing. It's at the FHS auditorium. Please come check it out, as we really want a crowd to make this an actual success for the Music Club. -Reed (12-3-04)(12304)(1234) Our quest for a drummer may be put on hold again to play what has been called a precursor to the Annual FHS Battle of the Bands. Including us, seven high school bands have indicated interest, and it'll probably be at the high school, so there should be a decent crowd. The Music Club was trying to set up the show in the auditorium, which we would be damn damn happy about, as we've never played a venue built to have sound carry prettily before, plus the lighting will be nice. Sadly, this show is still tentative, but I was told that it would happed on December 4th, so clear your schedules and start setting aside $4 for a copy of our CD. If you're a drummer and we know you and you'd like to play for us, say something. Please. -Reed (11-21-04) um.. we need a drummer. -merey We have a show coming. That's right, you can see Reed Indeed finally/again at the Orpheum. We are appearing at the FHS Promotion of Black Students/Music Club Talent Show this Saturday, November 13th at 7:30. Should be fun. For us at least. -Martin (11-10-04) Despite the small crowd, we had a great time in Little Rock. We don't have any new shows on the calendar for sure, but we're looking and have got a couple of ideas. In the meantime, buy our CDEP to expediate the making of a full-length. Our egos are hurting, and the only thing that can cure them is your money. Seriously. Also, there are more lyrics to our new songs up on that Lyrics page. Isn't it is Sounds or something? Yeah, probably. -Reed (11-4-04) P.S. John, what the fuck did you do man? You lost? What the hell, dude?! What the hell? It's been on the shows page for a while now, but just as a reminder: we're the opening act at Blank Generation in Little Rock this Friday, October 29th. 10.25.04 Our first show in the post-Sandefur era went rather well (for those of you who rely on the website for Reed Indeed news and don't know, Paul has officially left the band); we thank everyone who came out, Christian and Marshall in particular for their stellar and tactful use of auxillary percussion. We've got a show lined up at Blank Generation in Little Rock on Friday October 29th and it looks like it will be without drums ('less of course a certain reverend wants to join us). Peace. 10.17.04 Let's see... New link to a website where you can find some Arkansas bands. Check it out. Even more important is the fact that we've got a show on October 16th at The Gypsy. Yeah, bitches, it's on Dickson Street. We'd love you to come, and so would kids that can't read... because it's a benefit show... for them. As well, we're working on some shows for the following three or four Saturdays and a show at Arsaga's sometime. Exciting, eh? -Reed/Martin (9-27&29-04) Hey, guess what? Yeah, you guessed it! Our song "Semannetics" is now available on a music-hosting-website-for-bands-thingie! To check it out, just go to http://www.purevolume.com/reedindeed. It's neat. -Reed (9-22-04) NO! NO! NO! We're not playing the show on the 18th on the count of Merey's and my voyage to see the Pixies, Modest Mouse, My Morning Jacket, Mason Jennings, and maybe some other superb acts at the Austin City Limits Festival. As much as I love playing shows, screw playing shows for the Pixies. Anywho. Buy the cd. And look for us in an article in The Register. Oh, and Keith's surname is actually Baskett. Isn't that dumb? As you were. -Martin (9-15-04) The Music Club show has been confirmed for next Saturday, September 18th, at the Orpheum. Get thurr at about 7 pm. Also, you can now buy our EP from the website, assuming you care enough to sign up for PayPal. It's not that hard. You care that much, don't you? I thought we really had something... Was I wrong? To buy the EP, go to its page by clicking on "Discography" on the "Sounds" page, or just use the link to the left. -Reed (9-12-04) Howdy. Turns out the music club, in contrast with our line of thought, is not such a reliable way to get shows. You guessed it, the show scheduled for Friday and rescheduled for Saturday is not happening at all. Anyhow, we're still working on getting a new date and the show for the first of october. I don't think we mentioned that we have finished two brand new songs, entitled "Spirits Without Hats" and another that, for now at least, has no name other than "Beatles Ripoff." We like them. Come see us and you might, too. Peace. -Martin (9.10.04) The page for our new EP "One, Two, Three... Handshake!" now has a picture, a chart, and some updated information. We are selling these EPs for $4 apiece in person, and we're working on an online distribution method. We're playing a show this Friday, September 10th, at the Orpheum with The Helpful Carrot and Requiem, our fellow placers at the 2004 Battle of the Bands. There's a good chance, too, that we'll be playing at Blank Gen on Friday, October 1st, but details are still sketchy. Love, Reed. (9-5-04) Well, well, well. The CD/EP is finally done and makes us (at least Merey) want to dance. Now that that is out of the way, we've a new agenda: get shows, play shows, distribute discs, and somewhere in the middle of it all, write new material. There are about four songs waiting to be played, twice as many if we end up playing with Marshal. We've already secured a couple of shows, so check out the dates page. We promise to make more news soon. Peace. We now have a page on Garageband.com, but that doesn't really matter to you, since you already know about us. -Reed (8-13-04) There has been an extreme lack of updating as of late due to the frequent lack of an established quorum at Reed Indeed practices--that is to say, Merey and Paul have been out of town. Since their absence, Martin and I have had a few casual practices with Marshall "The Body" Trotter (with sexy results). Marshall is probably going to be showing up as our lead guitarist in upcoming performances. As for our disc: some changes are being made, and we are pretty sure that it's going to be out before the school year starts. Thanks for waiting for us. -Reed (8-3-04) Just some stuff I forgot to say about the demo: We're working on a list of venues, labels, and distributors that might want to exploit it/us. If you have any suggestions, we'd appreciate input. Oh yeah, and the cd is real good. I've been listening to it over and over and I'm very, very pleased. Merey, as far as I know, has yet to hear it in its entirety. There are still some things we need to work out like duplication, copyrighting, etc., so I wouldn't expect anyone to have a copy for at least a month. Anywho, we're getting there. Peace. -My Turn (7.18.04) Well, shit. We finished the cd...ALREADY. So...it's sounds incredible. In time you'll see. Until then, we'll be working on copyrighting and giving it to people who might give us money for it. As soon as we have them ready, they can be purchased for four dollars. Oh, and Curt is our manager now; he's good at getting shit done and talking to people who need to be talked to. Four dollars - that's cheaper than ITunes. 7.17.04 (Martin) Yeah, screw iTunes. - Reed (7-17-04) FIRST RECORDING UPDATE: We have all the drum tracks done and all of Merey's vocals done (with some nitpicking room) for this little EP we are recording. As with last time, we are with Keith Baskin at Blue Room, but now we record in the Off-White Living Room/Kitchen/Practice Room/Hallway/Trash Can, sweating to the sweet, sweet sounds of the individual instruments of Reed Indeed. We are still working on names for this thing, and, while I would love to have some input from people that visit our site, I think the title ideas should be kept on the downlow for now. That's all for today! -Rhee 7-16-04 Some updates and an attempt at succinctness. First, we're recording in a few days for a few days; we're excited. Secondly, rumor has it that the FHS Music Club's annual cd will be coming out in the fall. Lastly, we're working on some shows with The Helpful Carrot at either Clunk, JR's Lightbulb Club, or both. Peace. -Martin (7.13.04) Ok. So we decided not to go to the open mic. It probably would have been a good idea...oh well. We have confirmed July 16-18 as our recording dates, so a five song disc should be finished by the end of the month. Otherwise, all we know is which songs will be on it: The Demise, Something New, Semannetics, Bossawampire, and My Apologies - as far as we know in that order. From now until then, everyone will be leaving town, so don't expect any updates. We've been spoiling you anyhow. -Martin (7-5-04) um. nevermind. -merey (7-4-04) This is real short notice. Merey and I shall be playing the open mic at The Perk tonight. It starts at 7:00, and will go until 10:00, but I don't know when we'll play - hopefully around the start. -Martin (7-2-04) Martin is working on rescheduling our recording, which should occur in the short gap we have in between people being out of town. Check out the Sights page for some spiritual enlightenment? -Rhed (7-1-04) Here we go again: recording is being put off, because EVERYONE SUCKS. -merey. what day is it? Here we go again: Indeed, another update! We're scheduled to record four more songs with Sr. Baskin at Blue Room from July 7-10 unless there are conflicts, in which case someone will be losing their spot in the band. Reed Indeed should always come first. We're unforgiving like that. Ciao. -Martin (6.24.04) I (hate to) discredit (the) R-e-e-d-'s latest news entry by creating one of my own, but Ms. Merey mentioned something about opening for Jed Clampit sometime in the near future. Just thought I'd let everyone know, getting your hopes up and whatnot. Peace. -Martin (6.22.04) Paul's page finally has something on it, and the bio page is more full of stuff, If you're interested. - R-E-E-D (6/21/04) Martin put up a links page with links on it. uhmm.. so that's new. oh! and I added lyrics .. they're on the sounds page. -murr (6/20/04) I'm updating.. simply because there is no reason to update. What's up, guys? oh you know.. the same ole' same ole'. SHIT. ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! -crazy? (6/15/04) Probably the coolest thing about this little box thing that the updates are in is that you can type in it and delete stuff and whatnot. For instance, you could change "Yo guys, we've now got pictures up!" to "Yo guys, we lick butts for quarters!" -Reed (6/9/04) Yo guys, we've now got pictures up! Vance isn't back from idaho to produce the battle of the bands stuff, but that'll come. annnnnd we have a guestbook, so sign it! ah! always your amigo, merey (6/3/04) We are currently under massive-ass construction, bitches... Come back in a week (read: a few weeks) when we actually have something to show you... Lots of love! -Indeed, Reed (5-22-04)
