[Note: Because I have spent a considerable amount of time at Unley High School, talking with Teachers and Students alike, I am confident in my own appraisal of the situation with respect to IT at Unley. The technology found at Unley High is second to none]

Information technology has been embraced by many schools in South Australia and interstate. Unley High School is one of those schools at the forefront of IT utilisation. Their discovery rooms have come about through a government grant which is evidence in itself of the level of commitment by the school to be a leader in implementing the new technologies. The teaching staff at Unley have recognised that, like it or not, IT is going to be huge. So as a consequence of this realisation, all the staff take part in ongoing training programs designed to enhance their skills to become proficient in teaching and using IT.

Unley is one of a number of schools ready to take on the challenges associated with computer technologies in school. The students are equally enthusiastic in their desire to be part of the new wave in technologies. In fact, it is the students who always adapt more easily to new technologies.

IT is used to enhance students learning in a number of ways. I have provided a list of these here:

  • Computer Mediated Learning.
  • Web Based Learning.
  • Internet Research and Study Skills.
  • Presentations over a range of platforms.
  • E-mail and Communications Technology.
  • Web Publishing.
  • Legal Issues (Copyright and Plagiarism).
