POSING INSTRUCTIONS:

Posing Sessions for Athletes and Trainers

Presentation makes up 1/3 of your score in competition. Posing correctly and having the best presentation possible is essential in showing your symmetry and muscularity, which are the two other thirds in competition. It completes the package. The way you present yourself on stage can break a tie and will give you a solid foundation for a first place win!

Posing is quite detailed and illusive. The better you learn to show your assets and hide your flaws, the better you will place. Correct presentation for Quarter Turns, Relaxed Position, Walk-Ins and Turns for Fitness and Figure, and for each Mandatory Pose in Bodybuilding is the "icing on the cake" and will give you a better chance to win your class or the whole show! You've worked too hard not to be your best on stage. Practicing with a regular routine to train your muscles to be best shown is a must. In order to hit the poses correctly on a stage with no mirror, you need muscle with memory. Feeling the proper positioning for poses is extremely important for confidence on stage. Trainers are encouraged to learn the basic poses and how to get into each pose easily to provide extra benefit in their knowledge of training and to polish the look of their trainees.

A most helpful way to practice is with video assistance. Both taping yourself and watching tapes of others is a great way to learn. Practicing along with tapes at least three times a week will greatly improve detail and lines in your physique. It is especially important in the last ten days before competition to replace your cardio and training with posing practice.

Utah's NPC Team, including Head Judge and owner of Canyon Springs Wellness Center in Provo, Jeff Cameron, NPC Utah Chairman, Brenda Blakesley, and Bodybuilding Champ, Dave Dehoyas, will lead the posing instruction sessions at Canyon Springs. The criteria will be covered for what the NPC mandatory poses are and how the competition is scored.

Canyon Springs has a mirrored room with a stage and stage lighting. It is perfect for practicing for the real deal. There is also a TV/VCR in this room for showing Shawn Ray's videos and other IFBB Pro's videos to practice with and learn from during these sessions. For details on private use of the room, call Canyon Springs Wellness Center at 3067 N. Canyon Rd. in Provo, Utah: 801 375-6500.

Group instruction as well as one-to-one instruction and helpful hints and tips concerning one's own physique will be given.

Please bring suitable clothes to practice in, or a posing suit, and $3.00 per person to cover costs. If you have any questions about these sessions, please call Brenda @ 801 377-0660 or Jeff @ 801 375-6500. Good Luck and Train Hard!
