What is Information Technology?
Information Technology to me is the interaction of technology with business. As an information technology student, i realize that my future job can fall into a large number of roles. Information technology is used to help businesses become more competitive by managing how information is collected and used. Information technology is at the nexus of four attributes/skills: business, analytical, technology, and presentation. what separates an IT major from a computer science major is the fact the IT majors have more business-related courses.
How would your friends or associates describe you?
I believe anyone who has witnessed me in a work environment would describe me as being thorough. Not only thorough in the sense that I will make sure a project or assignment meets all of its requirements, but thorough in that I will ensure that those requirements generate a final product that accomplishes what it was intended to.
What is your greatest strength?
I believe that my work ethic would be one of my greatest strengths. when I accept a position, I am making a promise to apply the entirety of my skills and abilities to the completion of the duties of that position. I take that promise seriously. There is a school of thought which says employees should be given rewards so they will work hard. I, on the other hand, subscribe to the school of thought which says employees should be given rewards because they work hard.
What is your greatest weakness?
I have been accused of not being vocal enough; of not asserting my opinions. The truth, however, is that I often find it beneficial to listen and learn. When I have something to contribute or an opinion I think needs to be heard, I will let it be known.
Why should we hire you?
I should be hired based on two reasons: loyalty and focus on security
I believe an employer's commitment to hiring and training me is worth something. I am not one to always wonder if the grass is greener someplace else. As long as an organization treats me fairly and is loyal to me, it can expect the same from me.
At no time has security been more important to the IT industry than it is right now. I am part of the first group of graduates to have been trained with a focus on security. The skills and abilities I learned in school were always taught within the context of how to apply them securely.
Do you prefer to work alone or in a group?
Five years ago I would have answered "alone", but since then I have had the opportunity to experience first-hand the benefits of working in groups. Groups can approach and solve problems in ways that an individual cannot. At this point, I can't really say if I prefer one over the other, but I do enjoy, and function well in, both settings
Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
In five years, I plan on moving ahead with the company i choose to work for. I believe that in the world of IT, the need to expand my knowledge will always be present. We live in an ever-changing world, so to stay beneficial to my company, i must learn new skills.
