Features

1. One of the main feature of our interface is concerned with transportaion. One of the main problems we face when we go to a new city is transportation. We usually have problems with the bus and tram numbers, their timings etc., Our interface avoids this problem by showing the corresponding information through the map. i.e., the appropriate bus and tram numbers their timings etc., Also the user can search any particular location in the medieval city that he wants to visit through the search function. The search function will give all the appropriate information such as the means of travel, their numbers, timings, ticket price etc., As our interface also has the GPS facility the user can avoid the stress of giving the current location. Our interface helps a lot to the people who are caught with xenophopia(as they might not be knowing the local language, culture, people etc.,) and hence they might not get the required informations about the transportation.

2. All the current events are automatically updated in our interface. Hence the user will get the information as soon as any change takes place in the medieval city. Thus if he sees a infomation through our application, he would not be in a quandary that whether the information is correct or not. Suppose our user wants to book a room in a hotel and he is not sure about the current vailabilty of the room. Our user is not sure whether the exhibition which has been going on for the past one week still exists or not. Our interface solves all these problems.

3. The application makes use of GPS to show the user's navigation in the city(as map) in the form of a screen saver, that runs when the user does not perform any operation on the PDA.

4. Our map has the feature of zooming and hence helps the user to navigate through the city with less effort.
 

Features implemented in the final prototype:

Our application mainly concentrates on the transport and language. We feel that language and transport are the two most important problems when the user goes to a medieval city(or may be to any city). Our feature named as “Transport” takes care of this problem. “Language and Translator” takes care of the language problem.

In the first screen, the map of the medieval city is shown with the current position of the user.

1. General Information: Here a video is there which shows some general information about the city(i.e., the culture, language etc.,). For emergency there are various telephone numbers which can be called for free.
2. Transport: There are two modes for finding the transport connections. One is a map mode and the other is the voice mode.

Map mode: In this mode if we enter the destination address with a particular time the appropriate transport will be showed with the transport type, transport number and the time it will take to reach there. Also the transport route will be showed with a map.

Voice mode: If our user chooses the voice mode and enters the destination address then our voice mode will guide the user to the nearest bus stop or train station with its voice(i.e., it will say “currently you are in this place, so go left, go right and this bus will come at this time in this bus stop and so on…).

   3.    Important Places: Here we can select a particular place for which the video could be displayed. Also we  can find          the transport connections by just pressing the    transport button and it will go to the map mode of our transport          which shows which   bus to catch and at what time and so on.

    4.   Utilities:

Digital camera: We have a digital camera enabled in our device for taking photos and short videos.

Freenet Phone: Our application has a phoning mechanism for calling free only within the medieval city and all incoming calls are free of charge.

Recorder and Translator: Our application has a recorder which records the voice and the translator will translate it to the appropriate language chosen by the user.

 Alert Box: We have a alert box for important events. Eg: if the user comes near a important place, or if the user stands in a bus stop and the bus comes late by 5 min , or if in a few minutes the rain will come etc., then the application would alert the user.

 In most of the places we have used the combo boxes. Also all the utilities are visible in every screen. Also from any screen the user can go to the any other screen, as our feature combo box is in every screen. Also from any screen the user can go to the first screen.
