IT270 Project Details
My project was to build a website for crazy uncle Flip (Phillip) who owns a beautiful RV resort on the beach in Florida. The primary goal of the website is marketing. Flip wants to make it easier for customers to learn about his park, and services. Flip also would like to make it easy for customers to request a reservation.
Setup in the standard hierarchical structure. Each page will feature a standardized navigation bar in the header allowing user to browse from page to page as they see fit. Some users may browse immediately to reservations to book their stay, while others may research the park.
The site is intentionally minimalist. the subject speaks for itself, and the page is designed to allow it to do so. The template for the site is a page set to a best practice fixed width of 989px on a light gray background intended to focus attention inward. Page has three primary elements of header, body, and footer. The header and footer are set to a beautiful blue like the waters near the resort, and main body is white. All navigation is intuitively organized in the header and standardized on each page. The general layout, colors, and theme of this basic template can be found throughout the website.
I tried to get a little creative on font in the header using @font-face to force client browsers to a "tiki-tropic" font. I also used a number of CSS transformations, from the site map on the home page that expands on hover, to CSS masking for images on several pages. I also went the extra mile on the gallery page, which is a focus of the site. Transitions on hover change the image size and transition from grayscale to color. On click I’ve used a anchor to java lightbox which enlarges the photo and allows intuitive navigation through the gallery images both forward and back with titles, descriptions and count.
The form for reservations is "non-functional" at this time. The intent for class project given time and scope constraints was to demonstrate the ability to create the form and gather the information necessary for a real world RV reservation. The form as developed is intended to meet the defined scope and gather necessary data. real world the form upon submit would email that data to park staff for follow up next business day. Even in design this is an area for improvement. A real-time ecommerce system that could display availability and allow for payment processing, and reservation conformation would be ideal. As would links to social media to dovetail the web presence with things like Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, etc… However, the key to such integration is constantly adding content. The only thing worse than no social media, is an account that only gets an update once or twice a year. I would strongly advise Uncle Flip to consider the on-going maintence needs before adding any social media integration.
