This tips
are written specifically with ISS addicts in mind. They
are a complete set of all my indepth tips and tricks for
playing the beutiful game. Some of you will already know
these tricks but up until now they have been kept secret
in order to always have one up on potential opponents, but
i figured that with the iminant arrival of ISS Evo 2, 'what
the hell I'll tell the world!', so here it goes.
Freekicks: - How do I score
with free kicks?
You probably won't like this
answer but it IS all down to practice. Simple principles
when taking a freekick apply. Holding back on the D-pad
will make the ball get up and over the wall quicker, but
then you've got to make sure that you can get it back down
in time, pushing forward after the ball is over the wall
give it a little bit of dip. Only use this for short freekicks.
Secondly you can just leave the
D-pad alone until the ball is over the wall, and then press
forward to help the ball dip. - Medium distance.
For longer distance freekicks
push forward toward the goal the whole time and hope that
you gage the power bar correctly to get it over the wall
and under the crossbar. Once you get the hang of freekicks
its simply a matter of getting the power right and having
a little bit of luck. A good tip is to learn and always
use the same freekick taker as you tend to get different
results when you change. I always use Ortega but anyone
good will do.
Another good tip if you get a
freekick in a crossing position to the sides of the penalty
area is to push forward and cross the ball using the O button.
This will perform a low cross. Aim it for the gap in between
goalkeeper and defenders and then attack the ball with your
players in the box, (you can do this by pushing the D-pad
towards the ball after the ball is in the air). Put a few
extra men up for the freekick and as long as the freekick
taker has a reasonable passing ability you'll stand a good
chance of scoring. Believe me this is a good tip.
Corners:
Push a few extra men forwadrd
for corners. If you are playing a 4-4-2 formation then this
will ensure that if the ball comes back out you will have
a man on the edge of the box to retrieve it. This player
is usually your holding midfield player, so make sure you
have one that can shoot, (Davids). This can get you alot
of goals.
As for power you probably should
already know this, but I'll say it again anyway. You want
to get the power bar around 2 thirds of the way across.
If you don't have a very good crosser of the ball then don't
aim it too close to the goalkeeper or he'll catch it every
time. You might not know this but you can do low corners
and corners along the floor, by pushing forward or holding
back on the D-pad when taking the kick. Its not very easy
to make much use of this but you might have some better
ideas than me so give it a go.
Heading the ball:
This is a vastly under used ability
in the game. I don't mean lumping the ball up to a big tall
striker, I mean attacking th ball in the box! Hardly anyone
I know does it, of even trys to do it. And they wonder why
I always beat them! This can help you beat anyone. Infact
if you master it fully it will also help you to score seriously
cool goals.
Not many people make use of it
but you can move the position of your players in the box
when the ball is crossed in. You will find that you can
usually tell which player is going to challange for the
ball and so the idea is to get this player in front of his
marker. Simple idea just as any real football player will
tell you, but no one ever does it? Well heres how you do.
Just before the ball arrives at your player just give the
D-pad a little push in the direction of the ball to get
your player in front of the defender and you stand a much
better chance of getting your head on the ball. Of course
this does'nt always work and if you think you are already
going to win the ball I would leave the player to it.
If you want to score gymnastic
vollyes then a similar principle applies. Its very rare
that you are left completely free inside the box but if
you can spot it early enough you can move your player back,
away from the ball a little and put him in the position
to make a volley. It looks great when you pull one off but
remember their not as prolific as headers. Try practicing
a few of these in the training option and you'll see what
I mean.
Tricks:
The dummy shot can be achieved
by pressing square to shoot and then pushing X and pushing
to the left or right. While this can be done to fool goalkeepers
it can also be used to good effect anywhere in the opponents
half. I always used to find it difficult to pull off but
I found that it can be easily achieved by simply running
your finger over the two buttons almost at the same time.
Not really a trick but the speed
bursts can help you out of tricky situations. I'm not talking
about simply holdinb the R1 button, I mean the Long Dash.
The long dash can be achieved by pushing in the same direction
as you are already dashing with the ball. Push the D-pad
when the ball is about to be pushed ahead of the player
and he will kick it further ahead than usual. Not many people
use this but if you do then you'll find it can give you
the extra bit of pace needed to get past an opponent where
you might have otherwise been tackled.
Also by simply tapping the L1
button once when moving with the ball the player will go
to dash but won't acctually kick the ball ahead of him.
This can be used to make space in a tite situation where
you don't want to loose control od the ball.
Long Passing:
To do a long across field ball
from one side to the other simply face your player in the
direction and press the O button until the bar is almost
full. Bare in mind it will only be of use if you know someone
is going to be on the other side to collect it.
A short tap on the O button can
be used instead of the lofted through-ball. Although not
always as accurate it can be executed from titer angles
where the normal lofted throughball might not have worked
properly.
Shooting:
Some people don't realise but
whether a player is right or left footed does matter. While
it is not a huge difference if you take it in to consideration
it will get you more goals. This is most evident when shooting
from distance. If players are cutting in and shooting on
thier favoired foot thay will almost always hit the target
and do it with more power.
Another tip when shooting is
to get your angles right when running in diagonally. Too
tite and it'll fly across the goal, too direct and you'll
probably hit the goalkeeper, what you want to do is be close
to sideways on to the goal when you hit the ball so as to
make sure that you can get it passed the keeper.
Extra Tips:
If you are dashing with the ball
and you are being pushed out of the pitch, then just before
you think your going to go out press the O button. This
will usually have the effect of smacking the ball agaist
the opponent and at least win you a corner.
Through balls don't just have
to be used to put the ball in behind the defence. Using
it correctly when coming out of defence can set up swift
counter attacks and generally make you look even better.
Similarly you can use the through-ball button to roll the
ball across the front of the area to set up a player running
in so that they can hit it first time. This looks really
good when it works.
Don't be affriad to use through
balls and passes when you think you are too close to goal.
If your players are good enough and with a bit of luck it
can help you to score good goals. Also don't be affraid
to run at defenders, esspecially when cutting in from wide
areas. If your player has good controll and a bit of pace
you can score some brilliant individual goals.
A few things that you might
not know about:
The arrows that you see next
to the players, the ones that point diaganaly up and down,
etc represent the players moral. Kind of anyway. If you
had an earlier edition of the game this was represented
by happy or unhappy faces. Depending on whether a players
moral is good or bad some of their stats are increased or
decreased by 1 or 2. The green boxes simply mean that there
is no change.
As for the light and dark green
circules in the tactics screen I too am baffeled! I know
that if you have your first eleven from the default settings
in, that they are all light green, and that when sub players
are placed in the side it changes. But what possible use
this is I really have no idea!
