Tal (Greetings)

Welcome to the Visitor's Guide to the Isle Of Anango
(as at 16 January, 2005, Earth Reckoning)

A Village HomeStone has developed on the Island, headed by Hakim, formerly of Tyros.

In Gorean mythology, it is said that there was once a war between men and women and that the women lost, and the the Priest-Kings, not wishing the women to be killed, made them beautiful, but as the price of this gift decreed that they, and their daughters, to the end of time, would be the slaves of men."
p. 352, Dancer of Gor

This Page is a NKZ NCZ (see below for explanation)

This is a Gorean web site based on the books written by John Norman.

Basic Philosophy

This site seeks to provide a place where people can explore aspects of their personalities within a Gorean framework - though one that is perhaps closer to the books than many, and which avoids a lot of the online embellishments and frills. Perhaps the main understanding necessary when adapting from the books to online is that online is, ultimately, consensual. Always remember that there are people on the other side of the screen and that their participation, like yours, is voluntary. In this respect some aspects of a more traditional D/s relationship favour online Gor. In other words, relationships need to be founded on self-honesty, honesty with others, and trust.

But is Gor as arbitrary in terms of male-female relationships as it might seem? If we look to the books, the ideal relationship is a complementary one, where the woman finds her "Master of Masters" and the Man finds His "slave of slaves". In fact many of the books talk about the trials that both sides go through, before discovering this place. The books also recognize that within each woman is a Free Companion and a slave. It is for individuals to work out where that balance might lie, both within themselves, and in their relationships. If Gor has something to say, it is that many, if not most women wish a strong Man. Strength means Mastery of Self - which means moving well beyond the mere defence of a hard wall about Oneself. It means seeing Oneself as One truly is, and facing One's own weaknesses honestly and openly.

When looking at Gorean Culture online, We seek to ensure that what happens would, at least, be feasible in the Books. In other words, they do not dictate and limit, but rather illustrate a culture.

One other issue...If two people are in a r/t relationship, and also both in online Gor, it is suggested that their relationship be similar in online Gor as well.

Using the Site

All who enter are expected to avoid acts unbecoming of Gorean ways. We expect the proper behaviour of the Gorean lifestyle. The Gorean lifestyle is a Dominant/submissive lifestyle, with Gor being a slave-owning culture. The Free may be Male or Female, and slaves may also be of both genders. Most Males are Free and most females are slaves. Gor is based on a series of independent cities and towns (often called Home Stones, though strictly speaking this is the stone in which the spirit of the Household is embodied). They are usually ruled in times of war by a Ubar, who is usually from the Warrior Caste, or, in times of peace, by an elected Administrator. Castes are a major part of Gor, and all the Free belong to a Caste.

This is more than just a game - We seek to re-create the Culture of Gor online, in so far as it can be translated online. Remember always that there are real people on the other side of the screen.

Before entering We require that you read the visitor guidelines below.

People with some experience or knowledge of Gor, including members of other Home Stones in Excite are asked to read the full Rules of the Site before their first entry.

Visitor Guidelines

Please read before entering the site from Observation

Before entering this room please be advised that it is a Gorean Homestone. If You are interested in Gor or learning of the life, please read the rules of the Home and IM a Free Person (Citizen - located at the top of the page). If this is not the life You choose..please be well and we pray You find what You seek. Disrespect will not be tolerated and will find those guilty of such to be removed from the Home. Initially, you should stay in Observation, until you have read and understood these rules. This is recommended for at least your first visit.  Contact one of the Free in IM if you have any questions.

Do not just enter the room and start chatting. A Free person (top of page) will advise if you should enter.  Note that We have the ability to boot those who do not obey site rules. If you are invited to enter, keep the top left area of the screen clear.

Courtesy is vital. Gor is a structured society with respect for other Free Persons. Courtesy should be extended to slaves as to be discourteous to a slave (unless a slave has offended) is to be discourteous to the Master of that slave.

Women who are not submissive are expected to dress demurely and act with decorum.

If you are Dominant or not part of the D/s lifestyle:
* On entering the site, move to the top of the page and greet the Free (they are at the top of the page).
* Look for the senior Male Free present (check IDs or look at the Member's Page) and greet.
* Female Free should then be greeted.
* Slaves may then be greeted if You wish.
* A Dominant, who makes that clear in their ID, or from their name, is entitled to the term Sir or Ma'am from slaves.
* Master and Mistress are reserved exclusively for Goreans.
It is preferred that You greet a number of people in a single post, provided they are all Free or all slaves.

If You intend visiting regularly, with an intent to learn about Gor, You may ask the Ubar (or a senior Free present) to be added to the Safe Passage list (on the Member's Page) which may or may not be granted. Please note that enjoyment of the full privileges of Gorean lifestyle, culture and citizenship is by invitation only.

NB: Visitors who are not Gorean are not entitled to the use of Gorean greetings, to the term Master or Mistress, to participation in the Gorean lifestyle (e.g. receiving a serve, sparring, or other purely Gorean matters) but are permitted to observe and ask questions.

Visitors who attend over a regular period (say a Month) will be asked to commit to Gor.

If you are submissive:
* On entering the site wait at the door in the lower right hand corner. When you are acknowledged you may enter and greet.
* Observe the priority of greeting outlined above.
* Do not interrupt a serve or a dance to greet. Wait quietly until there is a natural break.
* If you are unsure or have any questions ask a Free in the room if you may IM them.
* you address Gorean Free as Master or Mistress (check the ID).
* Sir or Ma'am may only be used if the other terms prohibited by your D/s Master or Mistress.
* Do not chatter with slaves or other submissives if it would cut across other conversations in the room.

'Gor,' he said, 'is the name of this world. In all the languages of this planet, the word means Home Stone.' He paused, noting my lack of comprehension. 'Home Stone,' he repeated. 'Simply that.' --Tarnsmen of Gor

Do look at the IDs of those present. This will help avoid mistakes in the treatment of People in the room, and of trespassing on limitations a Master may have set on a slave

No IM's are to occur unless permission requested in the room (except Free Companions with each other; Masters/Mistresses with their own slaves). Gor is about openness.

Note that online Kills and Captures are a part of Gor. Always check the room tags (labels). NKZ and NCZ are safe areas, subject to conditions set out in the "For Goreans"  Page.  In brief, inappropriate behaviour will not be accepted.

If You are leaving for a short time (say 1/2 and hour or so) please do a be right back (brb) in room and invert Your AV.

We understand that mistakes may occur, and are pleased to provide guidance on any issues. To learn more of the Gorean basis of this site, look at the page "For Goreans" which spells out Our basic philosophy.

Membership of Anango

Full participation in the life of the Village is available, by invitation, to people who show a knowledge of Gor, who are considered acceptable by Members of this site, and agree to commit to this site, and its people. Citizenship or membership is not easily earned, and a probation period applies. The usual progression is safe passage, Village Guest, Member.  This is not, however, automatic.
