Malie (Emily) Malie has an extensive background in professional ballet performing with Ballet Austin, Houston Ballet, and Ballet West in Salt Lake City, Utah. She has also taught dance to elementary school students for Ballet West's educational outreach program. Malie was originally drawn to the unique art of hula after watching the Merrie Monarch Festival on television during a trip to Hawai'i. Intrigued by the beauty and cultural significance of hula, she began studying with Ka'ua in the fall of 2005. She continues her studies today and enjoys learning about the Hawaiian culture and spreading the aloha spirit through hula. Malie earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology at the University of Utah, and worked as a research associate at the University of Texas in the Molecular, Cell and Developmental Biology Department. She will enter the Master of Public Health program at the University of Texas Health Science Center Houston in the fall of 2007. |
