All praise is due to Allah, the One and Only Allah. It is He whom we call upon, ask for help, seek guidance, thank Him for all the bounties He bestowed upon us and it is He to whom worship is due. Whoever Allah guides there is none to take astray, and whoever Allah takes astray there is none to guide. I bear witness that there is no god except Allah and Muhammad (PBUH) is his messenger. Indeed the best speech is the Book of Allah- The Quran and the best guidance is the guidance brought by Muhammad (may Allah's blessings and peace be upon him and upon his family and companions and whosoever follows in his footsteps till the last day), seal of all the prophets, sent as a mercy and blessing for the universe.

"O Allah! Exalt Muhammad and the true followers of Muhammad as thou exalted Abraham and the true followers of Abraham Thou art Praised, Magnified. O Allah! Bless Muhammad and true followers of Muhammad as Thou did bless Abraham and true followers of Abraham. Surely, Thou art Praised, Magnified."

"This day I have perfected your religion for you and completed my favor upon you, and have chosen Islam as religion for you."

Islam : Submission to God. The word has four basic meanings. in the broadest sense, it refers to the fact that every created thing submits to God by being Allah's handiwork. In this sense, no choice is involved, but in the next three senses, people can choose whether or not to accept islam. Second, islam means submission to Allah's guidance as brought by the prophets. In the third meaning, for which we use the word Islam as the proper noun, it means submission to the guidance of Allah as brought in the Quran. In the fourth and narrowest sense, islam means observing the Five pillars in general and the Shariah in particular.

The word Islam also means "entering into salam"; and salm signifies "peace". The root meaning of the word Islam is "to enter into peace", and a Muslim is "one who is completely obedient to Allah," i.e., "obedient to the laws of Allah (commands of the Quran and the Hadith- sayings of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH ))"

The fundamental beliefs, which serve as the foundation of Islam, are called its doctrine or articles of faith.

These beliefs are stated in Iman-e-mufassal which says:

"I believe in Allah, His angels, in His books, in His messengers, in the Last Day and in the fact that everything good or bad, is decided by Allah, the Almighty, and in the life after death."

The basis of Islamic teachings and way of life are various obligatory acts of worship, Ibadaat which are often referred to as the Five Pillars of Islam. These consists of:

  • Declaration that there is no god but Allah.
  • the prescribed prayers, five times a day.
  • Zakat, helping the needy and the poor by giving alms.
  • Fasting, once a year in the month of Ramadan.
  • Hajj, pilgrimage to Makkah, if and when circumstances permit.

Just as the pillars bear the burden of a building, these principles, according to the teachings of the Prophet (PBUH) are the basis of piety and of various worldly life; as the Prophet (PBUH) has taught that the only difference between individuals is the extent of their piety and not their color or the social status that they enjoy in this world.

The purpose of Islamic worship is to strengthen the Muslim faith and sense of submission to Allah, to discipline him for his role as Allah's faithful servant and vicegerent on earth. and to re-inforce the ties of brotherhood and affection among Muslims. They are a complete expression of man's dependence and submission to His will, his humility before his Creator and his desire to serve and obey Him alone.
