Introduction to Hadeeth and Sunnah

What is Hadeeth and Sunnah ?

Hadeeth literally means 'report, news, event, narration'. The Quran uses it in this meaning and never uses it to mean 'Hadeeth of Muhammad'. However, in Hadeeth-influenced Islamic thought, the meaning of this word 'hadeeth' has been changed  to 'Hadeeth of Muhammad' , which refers to reports on Prophet Muhammad's words, actions and allowances.

Sunnah literally means 'practice, custom, law'. The Quran uses it in this context and never uses it to mean 'Sunnah of Muhammmad'. However, in Hadeeth-influenced Islamic thought, the meaning of 'Sunnah' has been changed to mean 'Sunnah of Muhammad' , which refers to the practises of Prophet Muhammad.

What is our objection with this ?
