Day6: 7th Dec'03, Sunday "Our last day in Serengeti"
Left at 0845hrs to the 'Western Corridor' as we had heard that the wildebeest also called gnu were migrating in that area. Saw two giraffe less than 100mtrs from our camp site along with a batch of gazelles.
As we drove, the landscape changed to lush green pastures dotting the hills. Passed two baby giraffe...
1015hrs: At Western Corridor.....there they were.....thousands of wildebeest in typical migratory fashion filling in the landscape. It was amazing to see them running in a single line......step over step! This year the migration was delayed by more than a month, as the light rains came in late.
| Annual Migratory Pattern |
1330hrs: Stopped for picnic lunch with wildebeest in the
background, and a giraffe feeding 50mtrs from us.
On our way back to Seronera, came across a lion and lioness under a tree. (Initially, we wanted to stop at the same spot for picnic lunch!)
...... saw some more young lions lazing around and grooming themselves, oblivious of us.
......passed a herd of 30 or more elephants
1745hrs back at our campsite. Leaving tomorrow morning for Ngorongoro Crater......
We will always remember our last night in Serengeti as we lay awake listening to the roars of lions echoing throughout the night.....
