Day7: 8th Dec'03, Monday - Ngorongoro Crater
0845 hrs : With tears in our eyes, we departed for Ngorongoro. The whole experience of being in the Serengeti was unbelievable. Wildlife is everywhere.
Enroute to the Crater was full of more surprises. We came across a cheetah basking on a termite mound. A little ahead, not far from the Simba Kopjes which is along the main route, there was a lioness so close to us..it made us feel like touching her (if we dared to).
Other game viewed : Giraffe next to our campsite, herds of gnu near Makomba hills, foxes, Topi, black shoulder kites.
1040 hrs : Quick stop at Nabi Hill.
1125 hrs : Exit from Serengeti.
1220 hours, we enjoyed our picnic lunch as we were joined by curious Maasai children. Nearby, we spotted a lonely giraffe.
.................................. continued on towards NGORONGORO CRATER - At about 20km wide, it is the largest unbroken caldera in the world and is one of the great natural wonders. Within the crater are sweeping grass plains, swamps, forests and salt lakes with a variety of animals.
We stayed at Ngorongoro Wildlife Lodge which is on the edge of the crater rim.
sensational view from the lodge's lookout point
