PARENTS: JUST A REMINDER ABOUT SOME OF THE WEEKLY THINGS WE DO IN OUR CLASS.
1. Reading: Story assigned on Monday; test on Friday
2. Spelling: Word list given at beginning of each reading theme. Monday: Write words in alphabetical order. Tuesday: Write words 2 times. Wednesday: Spelling Worksheet Packet. Thursday: Spelling game in class. Friday: Spelling Test
3. Daily Math & Daily Language: Students receive on Monday and work on independently during the week. Students will have to do some investigating to find some of the answers (planner, dictionary, computer, etc.)
4. Planners: Planners will need to be signed every evening. Students are able to have one night not signed with no consequences. On the second time, they will have to stay in at second recess. I have told all the fifth graders that it is their responsibility to get this to you! Hopefully they are following through without it being just a parent responsibility!
5. Schedule: Students have a class schedule with specials, band, orchestra, chorus, etc. They have one in the back of their planners and another I told them to hang on the refrigerator or any other place for your use. If you need another copy, please let me know.
Thank you again for all your work with your children. They are beginning to learn how to use any and all study time here in school, but you should still expect one homework assignment per evening that should take no longer than 20 minutes. The student who are in band, orchestra, and chorus don't receive a study hall, so they may have a little more homework at night. I "try" not to do homework on Fridays!! If something comes up and your child can't get their work done, please jot a note in their planner. We will find some time during the day to get it done. Don't spend hours trying to figure something out--it is just too much time for your family!!! Feel free to contact me if you have any questions. At home in the evenings is tough by phone due to our schedules. Email or at school is the best! Have a great year!
