I finally found the Portishead DVD, it is a live recording from a show they did in Roseland, New York. Watching Beth sing "Roads" is intense, what else can I say, you need the visual.  My appreciation for the band has reached a new level, hovering somewhere in the stratosphere. My favorite song is all of them. The pic on the right is a still I took from the video. It is linked to their official website.
Hope Sandoval of Mazzy Star, is now singing with her new band, Hope Sandoval and the Warm Inventions. How do you describe the music ? How many synonyms are there for excellence ? I rather recall my Mazzy Star Moment for you. I was in Florida a few years ago and went to a music store that had listening booths. I always look out for new music, and when I saw  the cover of some strange band called "Something with a  Star in it", I decided to give it a listen. ( from the looks of the cover artwork I thought it may have been a gothic band ) I listened to about 15 seconds of the first song, and about 5 seconds of the next 3 songs. Trampling the weak and knocking over a few small children, I ran  to the Mazzy Star cd section and bought every cd they had. What a great day. I had found one of my favorite bands of all time. Hope's pic is linked to a great site dedicated to her music. I have a few live recordings and an interview with Hope Sandoval, if you would like to trade live shows or pics, email me ! Trade only !!!
My work often sent me travelling up and down the East Coast. On the night Miranda Sex Garden was playing a small club in New Jersey, I was sent to the one of my least favorite states, Connecticut. So, there I am all alone in Hotel Hell contemplating the possible results if I were to drive down to N.J. - late show, access to bar, long drive back, late for work the next morning,  hang over,
screwing up at work, getting fired. So off I went . It was one of the best decisions I have ever made. Right before the show started, the stars walked through the audience and up to the stage. There was no introduction or sound check,, they just started playing ! The band played excellent and the beautiful, unearthly vocals coming from two seemingly earthly vocalists is quite awe inspiring. In the rare moments that I snapped out of my fear and wonderment, I witnessed my camera lifting up on its own and taking pics. MSG are doing some other projects at the moment, and their official site seems to be down.
Here are two of the pics I took that night. Click on them to go to Forever Burning, a website dedicated to the band. It has not been updated in a long time but theres some useful info there.
